By picking up your tickets for the game with Augustana College you will also get tickets for the next two home games with West Texas State Dec. 7 and Midwestern University on Dec. 9. Army ROTC rinnn joluvii SIGNPOST Sports Profile Assistant coach Neil McCarthy By Robert MIckelson If one can define the word Prolific as meaning productive, one could just as easily give that lable to the sports career of Weber's new assistant basketball coach. Coach Neil McCarthy is prolific all-right, both as a coach and as a player. He lettered in football, basketball, track, and baseball in high school; won a boxing crown while in the army; was an all conference basketball player in Junior College and a letterman in regular college ball; and owns three college degrees: a B.A. and M.A. in physical education and a Bachelor of Arts degree with a history minor. In his six years as a high school coach his teams JV wnn 1 2fi mes while loosing only 48. And now he is taking over the assistant coach's job here at Weber. Is that Prolific or is that Prolific? Coach McCarthy is a product of Northern California, specifically Valleio. Calif. It was there, at St. Vincent'sHigh School, he lettered in just about every sport the school offered. He fulfilled his duty to Uncle Sam right after graduating from high school. While stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, Coach McCarthy showed his prowess in another of his favorite high school sports, winning the base heavyweight boxing crown. After two years of Army lige, he surrendered to a couple of different drummers ; he got married and went to college. In two years at his home town junior college at Ballejo, he won All Conference in Basketball. After obtaining a degree in Associated Arts, he transferred to Sacramento State College and lettered for two more years. He also gained the afore mentioned degrees. In three years, he led . his squads to 59 victories against 24 losses. He later overcame this record while coaching three years at St. Patrick's High School also in Ballejo. There he complied 64 wins, 24 losses. When he heard the assistant coach's job at Weber was open, he applied for it And the rest you know except that Coach Neil McCarthy now resides in Ogden with his wife Lynn and his daughter Lisa, 10, and son Erin, 9. "I'm really happy to be part of the Sports program at Weber," explained Coach McCarthy. "I really like the community and I'm very happy to be part of the high quality of ball Weber plays."
