Influential individual Jake Hoogland, Coordinator of the McGovern Weber County campaign, was considered as somewhat of a leader of the Weber State College McGovern supporters, and was influential in getting rides for many of McGovern's supporters. "I believe you and I have the power to decide if we are going to enter a season of hope, or a winter of despair," McGovern said. "If I become the nominee of the Democratic Party, you and I together are going to drive Mr. Nixon from the White House in 1972." He said that the American people were sick of leadership concerned with one day headlines more than they are with long term solutions.
