Show page 6 signpost cycling marathon scheduled in may r V The Men's Intramural Association is sponsoring a special Bicycle Marathon Race this Friday, May 5, at 1 p.m. starting at the stadium parking lot on the WSC campus. All male students and faculty are invited to participate in the 25-mile course. Trophies will be awarded to first and second place winners in three categories: A league, Independents-B, and faculty. No entries are necessary. The participants need only to be ready with bicycle for the start. According to Ron Halleran, Men's Intramural Director, "This event is being held for the first time in response to the popularity of bicycling in Ogden. Weber State is now offering bicycling in the P.E. program, and many students now ride daily to school. It is fitting that we should make bike racing apart of our program". Participants will procede as follows: from the campus along Taylor Avenue to 20th Street, along Valley Drive and into Ogden Canyon up to Pineview . Dam, along the road to Liberty until they reach the Eden turn-off, turn around and return on same route to Stadium parking lot. Anderson instructs students Janet Larsen and Brian Felt during scuba class. scuba diving class by bonnle cantwell The scuba diving class, one of Weber State's new additions to the curriculum is progressing very well, according to the instructor.Instructor Louis Anderson has been teaching the class since it was started fall quarter as a result of interest shown in the class in a survey taken last year. Scuba diving was listed as the second most wanted class on campus. Students may take the class for two purposes. First, they may take the class for a physical education credit. Second, the class may be taken not only for credit, but for certification,, which enables the student to buy air. Mr. Anderson runs the only all-diving store in Utah. In addition to teaching classes at WSC, he offers classes at various other schools in the area and is considering teaching a scuba diving class at Utah State. Besides the basic diving class, Mr. Anderson teaches classes under the senior diving program such as open water diving, cave diving, underwater phtography, and night diving. "We teach diving under a new concept," said Mr. Anderson, "that is making diving as much fun as possible." Through his organization he sponsors diving trips for diving students. The Utah area has a number of good diving spots, according to Mr. Anderson.
