First Acorn Service Awards Presented to Vellinga Twins Clarence and Clifford Vellinga have been chosen by the editors of the Signpost and Acorn to receive the first annual Acorn Service Award. The award will be presented to the twins at the Publications Banquet Monday, June 6. They will receive engraved plaques and yearbooks. Bob Hunter, yearbook editor, said the purpose of the award is to "honor some person or group of individuals who have contributed remarkable service to the school or community". The Vellingas were recently elected to student body offices for next year. During the past year, both have been active in Union Buildings activities. They have been members of Phoenix, and Lamba Delta social clubs and are presently members of Delta Phi fraternity. They are also members of Blue Key national honor fraternity for leaders. They have served on the junior council, dance and special events committees. The yearbooks will be distributed to the students who have ordered them June 7 -8. To Whom It May Concern: This is the last issue of the Signpost for the 1965-66 school year. I cannot let this opportunity pass without letting off a little steam. As a member, more or less, of this newspaper staff during the past year, I have remained' relatively calm and unruffled. But here it is, Dead Week, (would you believe that?) and here I am, typing my fingers to the bone (plus using a lot of valuable time) for a publication generally ignored by the Weber State studentbody. I would hate to think that I was stricken by lightning or some other terrible fate and evaporate without ever revealing my true, uncensored opinions of what has occurred on the upper floor of the Union Building during the past nine months. Hence, to whom it may concern, the following paragraphs . . . The end of the school year calls for trophies, handshakes, and confessions. I must confess that working for the Signpost has been miserable . . . except for the staff who has been 100 great. Maybe Bert yelled, and maybe Bobbie screamed, and maybe John complained a lot, but I wouldn't trade any of them for gold. Rick, Cheryl, Sue, everyone has pulled for this newspaper. Some weeks it was Wednesday midnight before any of us went home, but everyone was always back full force the next week to "give it another go." A particularly important miracle to the Signpost was the bestowal SCANDIA $450 ALSO $250 TO 1975 WEDDING RING 29.75 PERFECTION IN A DIAMOND Cool (Wild) Cats! Are You Short of Dough? His appointment was met with a bitter resignation by staff members, who have since joined behind "their editor". Ryan may work for the Acorn and the Associated Press, but he's exclusive property of his staff. Say anything mean about him and you'll have at least five angry people to fight ... I may have worked for Jack B. Suttle-myre but I really enjoy working with Ryan. Rick Hassett and Bert Muth were also strong backbones to the staff, as well as Bobbie, who joined us late Spring Quarter. Often it was just Rick, Bert, and God's Grace that put out this paper, as witnessed by myself in utter amazement. The Signpost was often not produced by copy and pictures by sheer determination, determination not rewarded with money or sweaters or trophies, but determination rewarded by a job "well done". A lot of things disappointed us . . . like the cancellation of our trip to Flagstaff for which we had funds . . and the denial to go twice weekly next year . . but the year was not without its joys. Somewhere along the line something made each of us happy or we would have resigned long ago. So if we don't do the job the way you'd like to see it done. . . if we forget to print your article or your picture ... if we seem to be constantly complaining about something or always crusading for a cause . . . and it really, really bothers you, just let me know. I'll let you join the staff for a week, or a day, or as long as you can take it. I'll let you fight off the irrate citizens, I'll let you battle for the typewriters, I'll let you try scraping up some typing paper .... and if you can prove to me that you're not human, I'll personally bow before you ... on both knees, even. But until that time, to whom it may concern, please keep your screams of pain down to a dull roar ... I can't hear the radio over all the gushing forth of pain and agony . . .
