Show THE SIGNPOST September 27, 1968 Page 6 " J FY I U 1 In 1931, a group of male students received permission to establish the first fraternity on the Weber State College campus. A block "E" taken from the Latin word, EXCELSIOR, meaning "still higher, ever upward," was chosen as the fratrnity emblem. With goals of fostering wholesome companionship and bolstering school spirit and morale, Excelsior has lead Weber State in the College's multitudinous activities. During the 37 years since its inception, Excelsior has received many social, instramural and scholastic honors. Each year many members have represented the college in student government, athletics, and scholastics. Excelsior has captured the Intramural Athletic Trophy nine out of the past ten years, retired the revolving trophy for Songfest numerous times and proudly won Songfest one again last year. Homecoming 1967 was also dominated by Excelsior's Homecoming Sweepstakes float. Social activities, an intregral portion of Excelsior play an important role in fostering fraternty among its members. Traditional activities include the Sweetheart Ball, co-sponsored with Otyokwa; the Pilgrim's Panic; the infamous Malefic; a Farewell Banquet for graduating Seniors; and numerous exchanges with the women's sororities on campus. The Men of Excelsior are a proud part of the Weber State Studentbody.
