Major changes have taken place in last 18 months. UB Construction Started GROUND-BREAKING ceremonies for the $2.2 million addition to the WSC Union Building wil be held July 6th at 12:30 p.m. Dr. William P. Miller, WSC president and Keith Wilcox, architect, will be the main speakers. Others scheduled to attend the ceremonies are Ira Huggins, chairman of the board of trustees and Ferrell Carter, WSC alumni president. Several significant steps toward the growth and development of Weber State College were taken in the sale of bond revenue and appointment of an academic v.p. A syndicate of five financial institutions purchased $17.5 million of the bonds with the remaining $500,000 sold to the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Agency. Appointed academic vice president of the college was Dr. Helmut P. Hofmann, past director of the Rocky Mountain Educational Laboratory in Salt Lake City. Miller said his appointment completes the program ofre-organization or academic and administrative factors of Weber State. NEW VICE PRESIDENT Last February, trustees approved the appointment of Dr. Robert A. Clark as administrative vice president and James R. Foul-ger as business vice president. The board also approved the appointment of Gary L. Carson to the head of the psychology department and Dr. Harley K. Adamson as chairman of the secondary education department. Carson will serve a two-year term, Miller said, and Adamson will serve a three-year term. Other changes included the reassignment of Dr. Paul G. ' Butter-field to dean of summer school and Milton C. Mecham as new dean of admissions and records. Butterfield is past summer school director and Mecham is past school registrar. Both will continue to perform the same duties, Miller said. PERSONNEL CHANGES New personnel changes will become:' effective August 1. Construction of the Union Building addition began Tuesday, with a portion of the UB parking lot now blocked from traffic. The Culp Construction Company of Salt Lake City has been awarded contract for construction which is scheduled for completion in 1968. Included in the new addition will be aballroom, alumni offices, restaurant and facilities for a smoking lounge. Miller said the 90,000 sq. foot expansion would more than double the present Union Building, which houses studentbody offices, book- FUTURE PLANS store, bowling alley and pool tables, cafeteria and publication offices. Other building projects currently being completed at Weber State are: five story science buiK'ng complex, landscaping of library and patio areas; completion of Wildcat stadium and tennis courts. Future campus plans include construction of an administration building and new high-rise dormitories. Present dormitory halls will also be landscaped. And as the campus grows physically, the internal organization is also changing with reorganization of administrative offices and rewriting of the constitution. Jerry Nebeker, past WSC first vice-president, said the new constitution' should be ready for rad-ification by student vote next fall. CONSTITUTION REVISED A constitutional convention was called last December to rewrite the student constitution to meet the administrative changes. The constitutional committee is continuing its work during the summer months, Nebeker said, to meet the fall deadline. Constitutional committee chairman is Peggy Heffernan, 1966 senior class senator. |
