Show May o, I yoo ceding years. However trivial or major these decisions are, I, Ed Collins, would like the responsibility of helping you, the junior class of next year, to make the wisest choices. The 1093 students in our class represent 1093 ambitions, goals, and opinions. When united we. can work for the school. Dennis Heiner What is one way through which one can better understand another person? Through communication! Better communication is imperative here at Weber State! I am prone to feel that too many candidates evidence the friendly "Hi, Hi-type person", until elections are over, after which one sees or hears from them very seldom. Communication can be improved by having one senator from the physical science department, one from the life science, one from the business, etc. Wider more comprehensive views could then be made known. Ron Parker I believe that most of our serious problems, some larger than others, stem from one basic issue, a lack of communication. A major reason for my running for senator of the Jr. Class is to do all I can to get more representation in the governing body of the school which would bring the clubs, the several departments, and the general studentbody closer together; this would accomplish a major step more communication on campus. When this unity is achieved, our growing sleeping giant, Weber State College, will wake and stand taller than our neighboring institutions.SOPHOMORE CLASS Mike Lowe If elected to the office of sophomore president I will: (1) Personally become acquainted with the sophomores on campus. (2) Report Senate activities through campus communication media (i.e. Signpost, Sound-off). (3) Conduct personal surveys to determine the interests and wants of students on campus. (4) Advocate balloting to determine what students want (i.e. smoking in the Union Building). (5) Form a council consisting of sophomore representatives from the various departments on campus to determine how students want the Senate to handle their money and to assist in class activities. Clark Walker Student government supposedly represents all 5640 of us. In order to achieve this growth, I recommend: (1) Establishment of Young ' Democrats and Young Republicans clubs on campus. (2) Improvement of the library. (3) An elections assembly in the FAC for which the classes would be excused. (Either we believe in student government or we don't. If we do, there must be drastic measures taken to salvage it.) (4) More publicity should be given in the Standard-Examiner to noted -Iff RYAN REES FOR SR. CLASS VICE PRESIDENT! speakers in the Lecture and Artist Series. (5) The dormitory students should receive equal publicity for their activities, equal in respect to the paper, posters, and announcements. (6) Any other activity which will contribute to the broadening of perspective and outlook for students. Dennis DeDecker Our college needs a means of better student participation. I plan to organized a committee of students from different phases of life and of different locations around our area. I will endeavor to help the students to realize their responsibility and success through student committees with the aid of advisors that will be set up for help in certain fields of study. Finally, I will help the social clubs to receive national ratings and to uphold the Weber State constitution. I realize the needs of the students and their ideas of success. Cheryl Taylor After having attended Weber State College for three quarters, I have become more aware of its potential. There has been widespread talk about the apathy at Weber State. I feel that the apathy could be lessened if each class could become united and if they could offer more activities of a better quality. The Sophomore Class has two activities a year. This figure is quite out of proportion and should be changed. It is now time for the Sophomore Class to be recognized as a class not just a name. Cheryl Lorenc The catch-all phrase for a long time at WSC has been "better communication." The root of communication is in student government. But student government remains on a class basis even though most activities and extra VOTE Richard Neves AMS Vice Pres. Communication and Representation Sr. Class Vice President s' r-w ' t - -A I blGNPObl educational groups on campus are organized according to interest, NOT CLASS. As a sophomore senator I would be anxious to get at this problem by promoting the re-organization of senate representation according to division major. This would shift the emphasis of representation from the abstract class of students to the student and his educational and extra-educational interests and include ' previously ignored groups of students. Howard Collett Just what are the duties of student government? What can-1 do if I have a complaint or an idea concerning our school? Who do I see if I want better studentbody activities? These are just a few of the many questions that have been left unanswered during the present year. These are the questions I will help answer if I am elected to the office of sophomore senator. This is what we need for the coming years, active student government with active student support. What we further need can be outlined in three steps: thorough INVESTIGATION of ideas and complaints submitted by students, sensible PLANNING in the desired direction, and determined ACTION to carry through planning in order to solve problems and improve the status of thestudent-body. I think we all should grow together. The Associated Men Students of the college have a great opportunity to be very effective functioning unit on this campus. The present programs don't demand much activity from the men students nor dbes it create a full year's activities for all the men students. AMS should be an active body instead of a figurehead organization. Steve Young If elected to the position of AMS Secretary, I would try to follow through on a program to strengthen the AMS organization. A better organized, long range planning AMS would go a long way toward helping the mens' organizations take full advantage of the activities planned. This could be through (1) regular meetings, (2) the appointing of more representatives from different men's organizations, (3) more advertising of the AMS and its activities, (4) making the studentbody aware of AMS and what its functions are in student government.
