Show September 21, 1959 SIGNPOST Page 3 Phoenix Swellest of All, Members Say By John Hale According- t o mythology the Phoenix Bird dies hard, then comes back with twice the strength WE'RE BACK. It's been a great summer for the good men of Phoenix. Outside of attending missionary farewells, we've had some ripping good parties. Our ever loving sisters of L.D. proved themselves to be the best treasures that ever hunted. From the halls of Kay's Noodle Parlor to the shores of President Miller's fish pond the treasure hunt progressed.Clark Olsen's car found it first (the treasure was water pistols containing perfume). Of course we shared our treasure, there is no such thing as body odor at a Phoenix party. By the way, the next time you get a chance check out the blood stains and teeth marks on Suzie (Ingemar) Jacob's hand and tell her thanks for me. The Phoenix, O.T. "come as you are" party separated the men from the sisters (oops). Gary Gibson was called while showering. It took guts but he won the swellest of all, a fur liner er-a-, well, it's really warm anyway. After a sweaty scavenger hunt we all celebrated with pizza throwing contests. The party was concluded in great style with Dirk Raat taking Donna Osmond home. I hear he has two horses. Is that correct Donna? Better fill up that pool! The big rush was held last Tuesday. Mr. Magoo and GeraldMc-Boing-Boing leaped out of their individual cakes and thrilled the excited anxiety-stricken fans. John Elzy has joined our coaching staff. So far all of our plans have progressed lovely, so we may conclude that this year will be the . best year yet for Phoenix. Siva b b ies Seek Swell Season By Barbara ISlanchard Everyone has changed the record from "Summertime" to "September Song" and so it has been with L.D. as they worked through the summer to plan for a great school year and a successful first rush. L.D. members are now reminiscing on a happy summer. The hike to Malan's with Sigma turned out to be a real success. The picnic with Excels was another party that helped to make the summer more interesting. Our party with Phoenix, as usual, proved to be a good one. Everyone had a wonderful time, and we are looking forward to our next one. It wasn't all play for L.D. this summer. The members worked hard on car washes and cake sales in order to raise money for their rushes and activities for the coming year. The first rush of the school year was held with a Hawaiian theme, and we hope the rushees had as much fun as L.D. members.L.D. would like to welcome all the freshmen who are attending Weber for the first time and wish a successful year to everyone. Peabody Sad Over Nicky Visit By Dennis Dahl As we sit here in the shadowy booth of our club house contemplating as to what should be put in -the column this week, we think of Nikita Krushkev depreciating our vodka supply with his visit, and we are in deep sorrow. Blvd EX 2-7462 Alas, we would like to thank Mr. Kent Hurd for the fine job he did as Sigma's President. Congratulations to Phil Palmer (he doesn't deserve a Mr. yet) as our new glorious President. Speaking of his leadership merit at this time we would like to compare Phil to Nikita in vodka consumption. Results next week. Two Sigmas became traitors to stag parties this summer when Ron Hamblin and Jack Downs both took the large step. , A good time was had by all this summer on the part of Sigma merrymakers at parties with various girl social clubs. We hope to continue this relationship. (That good time Mr. Hale is a secret. We don't let everyone know who's in our little black book.) We wish the best of luck to all the clubs in the forthcoming year in all endeavors. For the Freshman, we hope for a great year at Weber College and to Coach Nal-der and the Football Squad we wish success and a good season. Now as the last glass is emptied and the Troc closes, we must (sob) leave you until next week. Bye Mr. Garfield. Frederick Peabody. P.S. Don't forget the Big Pink Bird Oct. 2, 1959. T. K. Says Luck To Every Club By Susan Stock The school year "is beginning and Takai Kyoto members look back on a busy summer which leads to a very successful first rush. The benefit show "Pajama Game" was the high point on the money making endeavors. Cake sales were also held. The mid-summer slumber party held at Kay Sweeney's home was loads of fun. T. K. has lost a couple of members to the masculine folks. Carole Crawford added Hyde to her name and Sara Gunnel received a dia mond and plans to be married soon. The first rush party for this year was held Sept. 9th at the Kopper Kottage. We hope the rushees had as much fun as the members. Takai Kyoto girls are looking forward to a fun-filled and successful year. Wishes go out to every club for the same. Blue Knights Ready To Go By Dee Smith The courageous Blue Knights have jousted through another gay and festive summer. The vacation was highlighted by the traditional Bear Lake Party. School activities started with a sparkling rush to welcome prospective members. Stag parties and howl-outs of diversified natures have spirited the Blue Knights. WATCH OUT SIGMA!! We want the hound-dog. This year will bring an added stress on scholarship so Phoenix can expect a good fight. Our special thanks go to Shar-mea and T. K. for their support last year. Looking toward a great year for Weber College we are Supportingly yours, " Alpha Rho Omega. Indian Summer Proved Successful By Shannon Reyns The Indian Maidens of Otyokwa welcome all the Freshman and returning Sophomores to Weber College. The Squaws had a busy summer. To earn money for this year we took over Powell's Drive-Inn for a day and also Town andCountry. However, work was equalled by play this summer as we took time for parties and fun. Our bicycle party with Excel's was fun. The "Come As You Are Pizza Party" with Phoenix was entertaining when a bathing beauty (male) showed up in a towel. Sigma of course always comes through with the greatest of parties. During the summer many of the Squaws got married. Judy Conrady, Claudia Malan, Diane Petersen, Nancy Hollist, and Sue Lindsay changed from maidens to Mrs. Congratulations girls! Otyokwa's Indian Maidens are looking forward to another successful year participating in school activities. We hope you are too. Sharmea Features French Theme By Karen Olsen The Pink Ladies of Sharmea have spent a busy summer in making plans for a great year. Money was raised for the rush parties by holding rummage sales and cake sales. The results of many weeks of planning came out at the first rush party held last Wednesday at the Tyrolean House. A French underground theme was carried out. Rush chairman S h a r o 1 Walhen and co-chairman Pat Berger did a great job. Cupid took his final bow when he saw Delsa Owens joined to Boyd Rasmussen in the Salt Lake Temple. A their reception the Pink Ladies were delighted to sing the Sharmea Wedding Song-"Dear Friend" to them. Connie Monson also stepped, to the altar this summer. Twenty-three girls are returning to Sharmea this year under the leadership of President Lois Stoddard. All of the Pink Ladies are anxious to get to know all of the new Freshmen and carry out the meaning of Sharmea, to make everyone a "Dear Friend." ; T contour tLlJ -"v trimmer yftlki M if fTfif pf' H 4 W I CyftwAattw I - f i 1 U hi . i&A I p H 1 Yl k'3 W UNIVERSITY ROW " SPORTSHIRTS They're contour cut actually tapered to fit your figure!
