Show Cats Go On Tour By Marvin Protzman By Marge Freston After much discussion and evaluation it has' been pro-nosed to change the name of the Women's Athletic Asso ciation to the Women's Intramural Association. President of the group, Donna Miller, states that it serves better to fit the purpose of the organi zation as well as tells just "what it does. Along with a name change, an old and out-dated constitution has been completely revised by a group of alert officers along with their advisor, Carol Westmoreland. Some of the sections which didn't apply to the way the WIA (sounds, different huh?) was operating were changed or discarded. One such of these was the point system. For ever-so-many years the WIA has been functioning under a direct and efficient point system which until now was never in the constitution. One section was added which states that in order to be eligible for WIA, one must carry at least ten credit hours in school. Squash The individual scoring starts today with all groups entering members to play "squash." The tennis competition was postponed until spring quarter because of cold weather. Three games remain to be played, and at present L. D. is leading the pack. Scores in volleyball play are: Organization Win Lose L. D. 3 1 Sharmea 3 2 Independents 3 1 0. T : 3 Chanodo 0 4 Then You Do the Hokey-Pokey : i Women's intramurals entered the second phase as volleyball took the sportlight. BUEHLER-BinGHflm ats m weber Hill Field's tall airmen were al most grounded last Friday but managed a last minute JATO assist to beat Weber s hustling basket-ballers 60-57 in a pre-season opener on the local floor. At the half Weber led the veteran Air Force five 25-21. However late in the final period, trailing 41-40, the Airmen hustled to a seven point lead over the Wildcats.Without top scorers Jay Brown and Blair Fowers, both having fouled out before the final Hill Field drive, Weber could'nt quite make the seven point bulge and fin ished three counters out. With one game under their belt, the Weber College Wildcats hit the road yesterday for a nine game tour with some of the top teams in the nation. Today the Wildcats meet Comp-ton College at Elko, Nevada, to try to avenge their defeat in football. They then move to Grand Junction Colorado to take the measure of Mesa College. The next six games will be with Dodge City Jr. Col lege, Hutchinson Jr. College, Ar kansas City Jr. College, Garden City Jr. College, and the Ft. Lewis Aggies. This trip will cover almost a thousand miles and twelve days. Coach Reed Swenson announced that twelve men would be going on the trip. This includes: Jay Brown, Norm Elliott, Blair Fowers, Bryant Giles, Gerald Hogge, LaMont Jensen, Waldo Jensen, John Meade, Randy Rothey, Gary Thomas, John Wanlass, Leighton Wessel. Several other members of the team were either ineligible or unable to go due to conflicting schedules. These teams represent the cream of the Junior College teams around the nation. Every one is considered a top team in its conference. Here is a real chance for AVe-ber's team. After being knocked to oblivion in football maybe we can make a showing in basketball. If we should knock off a few of these top opponents then the athletic program would not quite be a complete bust. Also, this is the Wildcats chance to even the series with Compton. Whatever way the ball bounces, it is the duty of you students to support our teams. See you there.
