Show BOG Quiet On I Student ISA Flan By Malin Foster Rumblings from Board of Control meetings have dealt with many problems of relative interest, but have failed to touch at all, the discussion of the important student organization which was represented here some weeks ago. At a luncheon which was written about extensively in this column, an explanation was given of the USNSA. This is a national and international organization for colleges and universities. The column went into great detail to explain this organization to the readers, with the hope of gaining some student interest in the meetings of the Board of Control. This aim seems to have failed miserably the big happy Weber family is going on with their daily affairs, apparently not caring what happens when their "parents" meet to discuss the goings on at Weber College. In conjunction with the lack of student attendance at B. 0. C. meetings, the Student body officers have gone ahead without so much as a word on USNSA. You haven't missed the discussion, but Weber will! Come back next year, maybe the new officers will realize the importance of such things and give them a minute or two ofdiscussion. The crack of the administrative whip echoed loud and clear across the campus last year, drowning out the rumbles and "lunch munch-ings" from the past Board of Control meetings. What unconvincingly started out to be a nice, easy discussion of the functions of club advisors of Weber College, turned out to be a heated argument between students and administration on the drinking problem, (if it is a problem; some think it isn't.) The actual debate started when Dr. Clarke mentioned that he had received reports that a girl at one of mixed parties had been forced (?) to take a drink of "spiked" punch or not have anything at all trt rlrinUT TViic. woe? i.-Pnnr 4-u nio uo AAWLtu UV 11JU3C nrkn 1 i 1 il. It was then established that this was a matter of policy, not written law. Faculty member and advisor, Earl Smart, said that he had never observed any disorderly conduct at a party given by the questioned club as a result of drinking-. If this is true, what seems to be the problem ? Certainly, a twisted story SIGNPOST Bi-Weekly Publication ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF WEBER COLLEGE OGDKN. These things can be solved without infringing on the rights of the citizens at Weber College. Dr. Clarke agreed that there was no written regulation nn th mat ter, but tsated that there would be one it necessary! If necessary! A regulation will be passed which will prohibit Weber College students who are of age, and within their rights as citizens, to exercise those rights as free neonle ? State laws prohibit the use of alcohol by minors under 21 years of age, which should be respected and adhered to. If these laws are not adhered to, offenders are dealt with by authorized law. Something is definitely awry, when taxpaying, fee-paying students are threatened with denial of their freeenterprise. The interpretations of this frenzied festivity are many and include the following typical comments: "What am I going to get?," "But mother, we don't have a chimney!," "Boy, I'm getting rich!," "There must be a parking-place around here somewhere!," "Merry Christmas, would you like to donate to the ... ?," "Where are the aspirin?," "Darling, I just love that fur coat in the window," "Which way to the poorhouse ? " Perhaps the true meaning of Christmas is still retained by students of Weber college as indicated by their response to the question, "WHAT DOES CHRISTMAS MEAN TO YOU?" I think it means to me some thing it doesn't mean to a lot of people. It's the commemoration of the birth of Christ, but people are forgetting that now and thinking of more material Barbara Bouck things. It's become too commercial, and I don't like to think of it that way. I think people would get a lot more out of Christmas if they thought of it in a more spiritual way. Georgia Hohlios Goodness, I've really never thought about this. Well, to me I guess it's really just the time of celebrating the birth of Christ, and of giving presents and not thinking of receiving them, and having fun with your family and friends. Tom Quinn It doesn't mean an awful lot. It By Bill Murdock is mainly an excuse for the merchants to get money to get rich, and not being a merchant it gripes me. Ralph Vanderheide I'd say it means a time of worship and a time of happiness. That s a hard question to answer actually. It means remembrance and sacrifice in a religious sense. It's also ' a way , of expressing your appreciation and your love for your family on top of the spirit felt on the Christmas holidays. Margaret Blair I look upon it from a spiritual point of view. Of course, Santa Claus always comes into it, but to me it's more of the spiritual attitudes and aspects, and I think it would be a more perfect world of peace if more people looked upon it with that in mind.
