Show November 16, 1951 SIGNPOST Page 3 Boys Will Organize in Social Groups Through Weekend Acceptance Parties Presidents of all the men's social clubs met at Dr. William Stratford's house Tuesday, November 13, to go over the list of expected rushees, according to Dr. Stratford. At that meeting the men's pre ferences were compared with clubs' selections. The letters to the rushees were prepared the next two days, and Dr. Stratford mailed them yesterday. Acceptance parties will be held over the weekend and next week. A second bidding procedure will occur within a few weeks. Club preference slips were mailed to every man in the day school so that the preferences could be used in either bidding. More Participation "This year an unusual interest was shown by the men in the social clubs. More brought in their preferences this year than in any of the four previous years " said Dr. Stratford. He claimed that it would be impossible to have a thousand active students in the student body without having them form groups. "These social clubs are generally the spearheads of college activities, but," he added, "considerable opportunity is open to all other students through the AMS, AWS, Education club, Geodiscipulus, Lambda Delta, Newman club, the Protestant Students' group and numerous others. "It is not intended that the social clubs should have a monopoly, but rather that they fit in to the student body's activities. Ivories Handier, Other Represent Weber Every Sunday on KOPP Ever heard of the young man with a horn? Weber College has a new twist to this well-known phrase in that it claims Lynn Roberts, a young man with a piano. Every Sunday afternoon from 3:15 to 3:45 on KOPP, a local radio station, Lynn exercises the ivories, especially for those who prefer popular music. He believes the public enjoys variety, so he invites outstanding Weber College performers to be his guests. Needless to say, the program provides a vent for Weber's talent, and listeners say it is well worth tuning in to. Lynn is a graduate of Ogden high school. He is taking a general course at Weber, but his main interest is his radio program. Suede Jackets Smart For Campus Wear! In this letter the freshmen girls stated that they are interested in belonging to Whip Club. They expressed their desire to make Whip a bigger and better organization. We agree that we are not a perfect organization, but we are striving to do our utmost. Points Suggested A suggestion was made to use the point system as a means for gaining entrance to Whip. The points would be compiled by going to games, writing songs and yells, etc. We agree that we need some yells and songs because the cheering section needs some new boosters; however, this is entirely out of Whip Club's hands. The point system is a method employed by the various schools for entrance into their "Pep Clubs.'' There is an idea around the school that we are a Pep Club. Actually, we do attend the games as a body but not in the sense the high schools do. Whip is a service organization. It is our duty to support school activities regardless of what they are. We just don't go to ball games and have a lot of fun. We handle all school lectures, concerts, plays games and also many community activities. No Rewards The girls in Whip are chosen for their outstanding activity as freshmen especially for their depend ability and for their ability to co operate. We receive no grades or credit for our time. It is simply because we want to see Weber become a better school that we spend many hours in its service. In Whip we need girls who won't let us down, regardless of the task. If a girl in Whip becomes inactive, she is merelv asked to drop out. Because a girl attends school activities dosen't mean that she would be willing to spend literally hours in preparation for them, nor does it mean that she is able to cooperate with the leaders without some teacher's constant reminders to get the work done. Meet Adviser Miss Wellnig is Whip Club's adviser. If any of you freshmen girls don't know her, just drop in and get acquainted. She is nothing like the traditional Dean of Women. We, as the officers of Whip, hope we have given you a better understanding of the purpose of this club. We really appreciate your suggestions, and whenever you have further questions we will be glad to help you, only next time please let us know who you are. We would like to know girls who are interested in Whip. Jeanette Ripplinger, Pres. That Last Step Was Pretty Tricky! W. A. A. A sport for every girl and a girl for every sport is the aim of the Women's Athletic Association, says Mrs. Marva Gregory, advisor to W.A.A. W.A.A. sponsors a major and a minor sport each quarter. These majors and minors are decided on by the council which is made up of president, secretary, intramural manager, and reporter from the sophomore class; vice-president, and assistant intramural manager from the freshman class; and a representative from each girls club participating. Any club may sponsor a team for the intramural games and there are teams for the unaffiliated girls and the nurses from Dee Hospital. This quarter's major and minor are volleyball and ping-pong. The first game will be held on Friday, November 30, from 2 to 4. Later in the year there is a banquet and awards are given on the basis of individual and group points. La Dianaeda Tomorrow evening at 8:00 p.m. at Jeneane Garner's home in North Ogden, twenty-four freshmen girls will be admitted into the ranks of La Dianaeda social club. In preparation for this event, La Dianaeda girls have plannedget-better-acquainted festivities. La Dianaeda is the first girls' club winner of the matinee dance contest which goes to the girl's club with the most members attending these informal dances. La Dianaettes, the club's singing group, has been asked to participate on the Thanksgiving assembly next Wednesday, November 21. Whip Club Bids to Be Sent To Girls Tomorrow Bids for the women's social clubs will be sent out Friday, November 16. The clubs are limited to thirty-five members, but most of them won't come up to that, says Mae Welling, Dean of Women. Most of the acceptance teas will be held on Saturday evening. . Alpha Rho The second rush party of Alpha Rho Omega, held Monday, November 5, at the El Chicko Club was a great success, according to club members. Bill Bocha's five-piece band supplied the music for the heels and hose dance. Bob Merrell and Alan Hawley handled intermission. With the rush party taken care of, the officers and members are starting to concentrate on their an nual Smoker, to be held November in. at the Berthana. Rex Layne will be on hand to referee the bouts. Included in the boxing talent will be several boys from Weber College, who will compete for a club trophy. Advertising is now under way for this annual program which is sure to be tops in entertainment, stated Rex Taylor club chairman. Pres. Dixon Express Thanks Dr. Dixon wishes to thank all students for their letters and cards expressing sympathy on the, death of his mother. The lovely cards and letters helped to ease his grief, the president said. Whip girls have recently returned from a weekend in Boise, Idaho, where they were the guests of Boise Junior College at a dance and at the football game between Weber and Boise. The weekend included eating, sleeping and having fun, according to several representative spokesmen. Most girls attended shows, had dates, and shopped in the Boise stores. Excelsior Bidding is just around the corner and the members of Excelsior anticipate a great year. The club ranks will be bolstered by boys from Ogden, Weber, Davis, and Morgan High schools, and then the club will really "motivate". One of the big things on the club calendar will be the annual dance sponsored by the "Squaws" and the Big "E" boys, but in addition there will be many parties, excursions and kidnappings on the clubagenda. Otyokwa The make-believe return of the Kwa Indians to Otyo land in the Institute Thursday night was a huge success, according to the Otyokwa squaws. The member squaws were dressed in green and white Indian style P.J.'s, and the rushees in their own original dress. There were events and games customary of a tribal pow-wow, followed by a great feast honoring Chief Kwa. Psychiatrist: Why do you nit In a corner scratching all day?
