Wildcats Capture Tournament Tit Blast Boise Broncos In Finals Weber Colleges Wildcats with a ' comparatively easy 69-55 victory over the Boise Broncos, won the region 4 junior college basketball tournament before a packed house at the Weber College gymnasium. The vaunted Weberites had too much power, class, and teamwork for the highly regarded Idaho five. With Keith Sewell banging away at the hoops for 21 points followed by Jerry Downs 17 and Darrel Tuckers 16, the Broncos just couldn't get going. In the first three minutes of the second half, the Wildcats stucked away 20 markers, while the Idahoans were held to five. Jim Duncan tried vainly to put his team back in the games with a six point scoring splurge, but the advantage the Wildcats had built up was too much. Casper College captured the consolation title by edging the Branch Aggies, 62-61. Mesa College tipped the Trinidad College five, 63-61 to walk away with third place in the standings. Highlighting the winter scheduled is basketball with more active participants than any other sport throughout the year. It produced three remarkable teams the Shop, Sigma, and Excelsior. Excelsior showed its supremecy as it went through the season undefeated and then beat Sigma in a championship battle. Kieth Downs led his mates to victory as he mastered both boards either clearing them on defense or tipping them in to count up the two points. The championship game started with Sigma and Excelsior trading baskets with Bowman connecting for Shop and Galbraith Downs, and Lieshman for Excelsior. The tide of the battle turned when Downs started to hit from close-in and Hill from mid-way out. Jerry Nillson versitle Phoenix president, led his mates to victory over the Dorm 3-0 to cop the Water Polo championship. Play was rough but Phoenix was rough enough for the task as they chalked up goals after hard swimming, elbow wielding scrimmages. Joe Brewer scooted down the slopes to lead the Sigma athletes to victory in skiing. Brewer skied in record breaking time in being victorious. Sigma was really the only one in the meet as far as performance was concerned. With the closing of winter quarter it still leaves Sigma in the lead in total points garnered but other clubs hope to upset the applecart with the coming of spring, baseball, track, horseshoes, etc. Tucker, K. Sewell Leading Scorers Darrell Tucker, Weber Guard, led the Wildcats in scoring at the Region 4 tournament with a total of 49 points in three games. He was followed closely by Keith Sewell who tallied 45 markers. Sewell was named outstanding player of the tourney while both he and Tucker were named on the All-star team. AnywJiere . . .
