Show 'Miss Utah '48' r - I liieiiiiii Wis llll 1 y ? V Winner of the title of Miss Utah '48 is lovely Miss Marilyn Robinson, former Weber coed and leader on the campus. Miss 'Robinson will compete in Atlantic City next fall for the title of Miss America and will attend the U of U on a scholarship next fall. . r if-l a rormer vweoer m 'Miss Utah '48' Marilyn Robinson, pretty brunette and 47 graduate of Weber college, recently captured the title of Miss Utah dn the annual contest held at the State Fairgrounds at Salt Lake Olty. The 19 year old beauty held many honors during her two years at Weber including the Sophomore class secretary's job, leading parts in dramatic productions and Lambda Delta Sigma offices. She is the daughter of Mr. E. W. Robinson, 2639 Tyler, and will attend the University of Utah this fall on a scholarship received for her outstanding work at Weber. I. way." t i I i All School Supplies Lunch and Fountain Service SIGNPOST Saturday, September 6. 1947 Sororities Bid for Freshman Hopefuls Gals Entertain at Pre-school Rushes By Carolyn Wright Society Editor La Dianaeda began the rush season on August 16-17 with their traditional navy themed slumber party. Rushes attending the party were inducted into the L. D. navy and filled out application papers and attended boot camp at Weber College. From boot camp they were taken to the Base of Operations at the Municipal Golf Course. Here, the inductees received their shots and dog tags. Decorations expressing everything 'board ship were carried out through center pieces of sailor hats, favors of boots, log books of school and club songs, and dinner of beans. The next morning the inductees were given their discharge papers from the good ship L. D. and completed their voyage on the Weber Sea. Goes Western Sharmea followed L. D. with their western theme canyon party. Held at Hide-a-way Camp, August 20, the Sharmea "Bar-None" Ranch opened at seven-thirty. Various games and relays were played and to complete the entertainment President Donna Baker, Jane Ann Slater and Marilyn Mills put on their excellent facsimile of the Burton, Hurst, and Garfield act. Favors of small western . hats, horses made from candy and packages of gum, Bull Durham pouches filled with kisses, and farewell sagebrush corsages carried out the theme to the greatest extent. Barbecued beef, corn on the cob, and others served corral fashion brightened Sharmea's first rush party. TKK Sleeps Tiki Kapa Kapa held the second slumber party of the season at Snow Basin Lodge, August 23-24. Skits and favors of characters in story books provided the theme, while decorations of red and white crepe paper billowing from ceiling to walls gave the lodge a warm, se- -fcluded atmosphere necessary fr a successful slumber party. Games and skits served as entertainment, and little figures in night shirts carried out the theme of the night. Chili and crackers added more warmth to the dinner, with hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Otyokwa Pow-wow Otyokwa's traditional Indian theme canyon party was held at the Explorer's Yacht Club on August 26. A nut-berry hunt, buffalo hunt and various relays entertained the approximately fifty girls invited to the party. As favors, suckers made like Indian heads, little teepees and other Indian symbols were given to the girls. Iota Chop Sticks Iota Tau Kapa's Chinese theme was carried out at the home of Janice Peterson in Riverdale. Chinese lanterns to show off the members in Chinese pajamas served as authentic oriental atmosphere for the fifty-five in attendance. Games and a scavenger hunt furnished enjoyment, and fans and miniature chop sticks were given as favors. Iota, under the new presidency of Miss Lou Ann Toller, held their rush party on August 29, and all together 'ne Chinese theme was very effective. AWS, WAA Plan Beginning Events Activity schedules and events exclusively for the coeds of the college will not be lacking this year, according to information received from Mae Welling, Dean of Women. The Associated Women Students and the Woman's Athletic Association have heavy schedules planned, and wonderful opportunities exist for girls interested in these two organizations.The AWS is headed by Roma Lou Buckner and membership in the organization is automatic for all college women registered. Other officers of the organization are Carma Baggs, vice president, and Ruth Crawford, secretary. First activity of AWS will be the organization of the Co-ed Council, a body formed to assist freshmen girls in orientating themselves to college life. Each of the sophomore members will have two or three little "sisters" to help in adjustment to college life. Woman's Athletic Association, an organization devoted to the fostering of physical fitness and competition among the girls of the college, has announced that their intramural contest will begin at an earlier date this year and that plans are being made to accomodate for more girls in the intramural program.Erma Adams is president of the Association and is assisted by Louise Ellis, secretary; Marion Blackinton, intramural manager, and Georgeanne Hedges, reporter. The vice president and assistant manager will be named from the freshmen class.
