Weber's three-man team was whittled down in the semi-final round when Joyce Tippetts of Snow defeated Glen Freeman, Weber's singles man, 6-2, 6-2. Manfull and Ketchie swept through their doubles match with Frank Allen and Dave Hansen of Westminister by scores of 7-5, 6-4. The Wildcat doubles team's failure to hold the net position was a large factor in their defeat by the Snow tandem, for they had been effective at the net against Westminster. For Novel Entertainment At Parties Glen Stamos, professional mouse-eater, announces he is available for all parties, social gatherings, and will offer something new in entertainment by eating another live mouse for a moderate sum. He guarantees a good performance backed by his outstanding reputation as a mouse-swallower. He recently downed his first mouse and is now confident that he is qualified for outstanding services to the public. He really feels fine after the act and wants people who are in need of financial aid to know that this is an easy way to make money. The feat furnished him plenty of publicity, material for some English papers, and five simoleons. Yet he doesn't want to be regarded as an outcast from society, and he wishes people would remember his name is "Glen" and not "Mouse." See Dix Jones for a summer vocation. "1' I i I V WS The junior college division of the Brigham Young invitational track meet, held at Provo, Saturday, April 29. was blanketed by Mesa college. The Mesa team swept six first places, four second places, and three thirds to give them a good claim for the top slot in jaysee competition. All members of the jaysee conference sent teams with the exception of Carbon junior college. Weber, Snow, Ricks, Mesa, Westminster, and Albion sent strong contenders. Weber Entries Weber's entries failed to grab a first, but they got their share of seconds and thirds. In many events the Weber men led the entire distance only to be nipped at the tape by a stride. Stewart of Weber took second in the broad jump; the mile relay team was dropped to second when Ricks nosed them out at the tape. Weber practically monopolized the third places. Third place winners for the Wildcats were Christiansen in the 220-yard low hurdles and broad jump; Hancock in shotput; Gardner in the 440; Peterson in the half-mile; Godfrey and Reese tied with Crocket of Mesa for third in pole vault; Steward in the high jump, and the relay team in the 880 relay. Three of Mesa's firsts can be credited to Leon Childears, one man track team from Monte Vista, Colorado. This speed merchant tied the conference records in winning the 100 and 200 yard dashes by turning in times of :10.2 and :22.5 respectively, and racked up a new record in the 220 yard low hurdles. His time for tin; hurdles was :24.3 compared with his last year's record of :25.1. Mesa's points were lifted by Mabey, who established a new record of 133 feet eight inches in the discus. Walker's first in the pole vault, and Stewart's first in the high jump. Hall Stars. Childears' field day loses some of its sensational character when Ike Hall, Westminster's ace, is considered. This healthy lad had a heavy day's work and walked away from the stadium with six medals. He took first in shotput, was on the winning 880 relav team, tied for first in the 120 yard high hurdles, and took seconds in tnc century, 220 yard dash, and the discus in all a busy day. Weber Netters Enter Conference Meet The top ranking tennis proteges of Coach Bob Davis are preparing to display their wares in a conference meet Saturday, May 6, at Salt Lake City. Davis stated that he expects to enter Vern Stromberg in singles and Charles Ketchie and Melvin Manfull in doubles. Stromberg. a veteran of last year, is expected to go a long ways in the tourney even though he has been able to practice but little this year. Manfull and Ketchie are preparing to take the doubles championship in a similar meet at Provo. Last week they were barely nosed out of first place by Carl Beal and Claire Anderson of Snow college. Glen Freeman, who played singles in the B. Y. U. meet as Weber's number one man will be unable to enter thetournament.
