Show Set a Trap. New York Press: A Chaumont trapper, while on his rounds for musk-raU, musk-raU, mink, etc., heard the most appalling ap-palling screeches and cries. Curiosity overcame his fears, as he crept nearer, until he finally came within sight of a wildcat which had been caught by one leg in a trap. The trapper hadn't much time to lay plans, for when the beast caught sight of him it sprang for his throat, malting a leap of 12 feet through the air, the length of the trap chain, with every hair erect, its eyes like balls of fire, and uttering the most terrifying shrieks. Guernsay says he Is -positive that had he been unarmed un-armed he would have been blinded throttled or killed on the spot, for no human being could withstand' an attack at-tack so swift and violent. But he met the beast with a hatchet, felled him, and quickly dispatched him. The cat reiehed 39 pounds |
