Show FROM KENTUCKY. LETTER FROM EL11EK WILLIAM U. MILES, WHO IS OX A MISSION' TIIEHE. Editor, Washington County News: Thinking a few words in regard to Central Kentucky and some of her people, peo-ple, and missionary work in this part of God's vineyard would prove interesting interest-ing to the dear people of St. George, and in fact to all the readers of the News, I take the opportunity of writing writ-ing a few lines for publication. A little. more than a month has passed pass-ed since I arrived in this vicinity with my companion, Elder William C. Chris-tensen, Chris-tensen, and began labor. Upon leaving leav-ing Lancaster, the county seat of Ger-rard Ger-rard county, and departing into the country nearby we found ourselves among friends, good warm-hearted people who were more than anxious to hear us explain the glorious principles of God's plan of life and salvation. We have found no obstacles in the way to prevent us from procuring houses to speak in and have had the privilege of raising our voices many times before intelligent people in defense of the truth. Of kind friends we have had and still have many, and until a very recent date have gone forth in our labors unmolested. But the main object ob-ject I have in writing this article is to narrate an incident that happened Jast Sunday, which is as follows: We had been told that a Minister was going- to speak in a school house near by, and as we had no appointment out for meeting that evening, Elder Christensen and I decided to go and hear what the brother had to say, and I will just say that we found out to our hearts content, Elder Christensen told me after it was over that he expected ex-pected just what he got, but as for myself my-self I wasn't hardly expecting it. The one who on this occasion assumed the position as servant of God was a Presbyterian Pres-byterian by faith, and I assert here that instead of speaking under the influence in-fluence of. the Spirit of the Lord, he was most certainly led and dictated by the power of Satan who was not far from him while he was speaking. As proof of my assertion I will go to the bible, Galatians 5 chapter 22nd verse, where it says, "But fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering-, gentleness, gen-tleness, goodness, faith." If our worthy brother manifested any of these qualities on that occasion the Lord deliver me from ever attaining to any of them. Now I have come into the world to preach a gospel of love, and probably I am too severe in judging my friend, but I just want to state a few plain facte in the case, and leave it to the people, or the whole world if it comes before them, to judge for themselves them-selves whether or not he was guided by the Spirit of God. He first began on the book of Mormon, and instead of telling his flock to follow the admonition admonit-ion of Paul, "To prove all things and hold fast to that which is good," he broke loose by asserting that the Sacred book was a delusion, and that it was of the devil, as also were the people representing rep-resenting it. He cited a verse or two in the last chapter of Revelations as evidence against its divinity, but forgot for-got to turn back and read the most important im-portant passages bearing on this subject, sub-ject, as most ministers always do. But he soon left the scriptures, it wasn't his object to substantiate his assertions asser-tions from a scriptural standpoint. His motive was to poison the minds of the people against God's work, and His servants. After a while lie started on polygamy, mentioning the case of President A. M. Cannon, and said that the President of the Mormon Church had been lately convicted of polygamy in the United States courts. When we told him afterwards that A. M. Cannon was not the President of the Church he denied our statement and declared he was. In the course of his remarks he spoke of the degradation in Utah, and said that the women of that State, he had learned from a lady friend, was lower degraded than were the women in heathen Tudia. He wound up by warning the people not to hear our doctorin or to have anything any-thing to do with us, and says he: "As you value your souls, don't you have anything to do with the Book of Mormon, Mor-mon, for it will lead you to destruction." destruc-tion." We had to sit in our seat and as the lines read, "The medicine is hard to swallow, but the directions say take it. " After services were over we tried to get an opportunity to talk with him for a few minutes, 'out no. his little speech was ended, and he had to he uor.e. I have no hatred tov ant htm.
