Show TRAIN ROEEERS BETRAYED. One of the Gang Weat.cned andaMade a Confession. Scdalia, Mo., Dec. 2. Engineer James I. West and Conductor Eli. J. Stubblefeld, who held up the Misssouri Pacific train near here Tuesday night will have a preliminary hearing Dec. 8. The confesion of R. R. Cunningham, the third of the trio, who weakened at the last moment, is made public. In substance he says that the first time ha was spoken to about train robbing waa by Stubblefeld in last May. Stubblefeld Stubble-feld was at that time breaking on tha Missouri, Kansas & Texas road. Stubblefeld Stub-blefeld met Cunningham and his brother Charlie in a saloon, he says, and asked them if they would "go in" with him and another man and rob a train. Stublefeld came to him again and told him that Jim West, an engineer en-gineer on the Missourijl'acific, would help him. Then Jim West talked to him about helping Stubblefeld. After he refused, West and Stubblefeld threatened to kill him if he betrayed them. Mondaj- evening' West came to the butchershop of W. J. Letts, where Cunningham works, and told him that he and Stubblefeld would rob the Misouri Pacific train Tuesday night. |
