Show Mourning Envelopes Kxcludert. From the London News: A strauge order has just been issued by the Frencn postoffice, and a strange justification justi-fication given for it. Henceforth mourning envelopes are not to pass through the post. The note paper may have as deep an edge as the sender desires, de-sires, hut the covers must be white, or may be tinted, but at least is not to have a black edge. It is not that the department is out of sympathy with the expression of mourning by means of stationery. On the contrary, con-trary, the sending ot mourning cards is a decided source of revenue. It is that experlsnce has shown the post-office post-office authorities that mourning envelopes en-velopes are easily tampered with. They can be opened, and if the gummed gum-med edge is torn or frayed in the proc-ess proc-ess a uttle ink rubbed over the black surface makes everything look right. A white envelope so interfered with would tell its own tale. |
