Show LKKDS. We are having one of our old-fashioned north winds this morning to cheer us. Apostle Cowley and President Kimball Kim-ball held meeting with us on their return re-turn homeward from St. ' George. We had a splendid meeting. Our children who have been attending attend-ing school at Cedar City are home spending the holidays. They speak very highly of the school in all its branches. We are pleased to note that our leading lead-ing people are advocating the taking-care taking-care of, and raising stock. We will say this is right, but it never can be made a success by the masses of the people as long as we do not fence our land; we have been trying it now for twenty-jive years, and have proven that it can not. be done. Talk fence first, cattle next, and we are with you. Our people arc having a general good time. All this week to date has been spent in outdoor amusements, such as horse racing, foot racing, wrestling, jumping, in fact anything for enjoyment. enjoy-ment. We have had many visiting friends from Cedar City and other places. We are pleased to note that while there has been some drinking there has been no one yet get mad, or raise the least disturbance; but we regret to see what appears to be a growing tendancy to gamble; every horse race, foot race, wrestle or jump has to have a little money put up on it to make it interesting. interest-ing. This, we think, is entirely wrong, and should be discouraged as much as possible by all leading people. B. M. Leeds, Utah, December 29, 1808. |
