Show SICKENING SPECTACLE. Express Train Plows Into a Mass of Workmen, Work-men, Killing Eleven. New York, Nov. 19. In the gloom of smoke, storm and fog that darkened the rails of the Pennsylvania railroad between Jersey City and Harrison, a belated suburban train dashed into a gang of workmen, killing eleven and wounding four, while five others had remarkable escapes. All the victims lived in Jersey City. The accident happened two miles from Jersey City. At that point there are four tracks, two devoted to passenger passen-ger and two to freight traffic. The men were working on a freight track when a train approached. They all stepped from the freight track onto the passenger track, when, without warning, the belated train dashed into them. The scene was one of sickening horror. Bodies were thrown hundreds of feet, limbs were scattered in every direction, and the ground looked like a battle-field. |
