Show INDEPENDENCE OR DEATH. Aguinaldo Will Fight for Kecogntlon of the Filipino Republic. London, Nov. 21. It is learned that jn Wednesday last, Agoncilla,' the representative of Aguinaldo, who has been in Paris watching the proceedings proceed-ings of the peace commissioners, called a meeting of the Filipinos in Paris and London to meet him in Paris, when a committee was formed with the object of doing everything possible to induce France to recognize the so-called Filipino Fili-pino republic. A telegram was sent to Aguinaldo, asking for instructions, and thsfollowingreply is said to have been received: "Insist upon absolute independence. Otherwise fight to the death. We are all united and the government is progressing pro-gressing smoothly. All the independent independ-ent tribes of the moun tains are submitting sub-mitting to Aguinaldo and the chiefs are bringing presents of gold.'' The statements made by General Wesley Merritt, in reply to the appeal of the Filipino junta of Hongkong to the American people, have caused indignation in-dignation among the Filipinos. They are specially incensed at the suggestion sugges-tion that they would loot and at the idea of being governed as a colony. |
