R J gardner ot of provo and their daughter mrs lo 10 vina lott of huntington are visitors here after an absence of several years elders from enterprise were home missionaries here sunday we great ly enjoyed their talk and hope they will come again misses clara mcallister and millie pendleton have returned to st george after enjoying an outing here mr air and airs H J bastian and mr and mrs alma jacobson have gone to st george to visit relatives mr and mrs joseph foremaster are here from st george enjoying the cool mountain air james bennett of deseret spent a few days here visiting his children and other relatives levi snow is working at cedar city his wife and children have joined him there mr and mrs ernest nelson have returned to st george after an out ing here Z miss eva crosby harding he being the first president to visit the people in this part we feel that he was a friend to utah people mibs miss mary foremaster of st george has returned home after vis biting the past three months here with relatives and friends rex leavitt norvel and hal brae brac ken have returned from iron springs where they have been working the V past month wayne gardner of st george is in 28 2 8 pio neer day was celebrated by the older people of the town at daybreak two truck loads of men and women serenaded the town singing the old favorite hamms ot of the pioneers at 10 0 clock a meeting was held with a fitting program thomas leavitt sr vincent mrs ella and ada leavitt left sunday for salt lake and intend visiting their three daughters living in northern utah mr and mrs archie gubler with mrs benj blake returned from ov erton where they have been visiting the latter s sister mrs ella perkins mr air and mrs albert leavitt and miss lea leavitt returned sunday from a trip to bryce canyon and oth er parts in southern utah many of the young people went to enterprise and pine valley they have returned and report having had a good time CIL springdale springdale aug 6 vice dent H 31 adams atty smith and engineers lancaster and martin were in zion park on the 4 dinst making final arrangements for carrying out the program of the TJ U P R R in the park we mourn but not alone in the loss of president warren G harding our nation has lost one of its mighty sons his achievements will live on and on although another has taken his place mack bean wife and his mother mrs james crawford recently re turned from a tour of bryce canyon and cedar breaks mrs Cam belina millet of cedar city is here visiting her parents bp and mrs thornton hepworth eliel winder and family are at home after working at anderson s ranch a few months brighten the corner where you are veyo aug VETO VEYO 6 on aug 1st our town was struck with a very destruct ive hail hall and rain storm followed by terrific floods the old chad ranch farms and the farm of 3 F cottam cottain were very badly damaged by floods and almost every garden in town was complexly destroyed by hail hall the flood that went down the santa clara creek from this point was the largest ever known both power plants were full of water and complexly thrown out of commission and the operators and their families had to flee tor for their lives during a heavy downpour of rain work is progressing nicely on the leaning cleaning up and re paring of the dixie power plants and ditches miss bliss nina bunker has returned to her overton nev is a town visitor PINTO pinto aug 4 mrs walter knell fell and dislocated her right shoulder she was taken to cedar city where dr macfarlane set it she is doing as well as can be expected mr and mrs J 0 pathe and two sons from bakersfield cal are here visiting mr and mrs W J knell they are converts of walter knell hurricane HURRICANE july 30 while racing on july 2 4 mayor J W imlay slip ped on a peach and sprained his wrist tore the cord loose in the back of his heel and received a general shaking up he was taken to salt lake city for treatment we we were visited this afternoon with a severe wind storm which blew over many trees and did much dam age to the fruit crop one barn root roof was blown off and a telephone pole blown over we haven t learned all the damage done yet A heavy rain followed the wind the water has been out of the canal since july 22 the canal being con sider ably filled up with sand from the floods crops are beginning to suffer the misses thelma and ora work man entertained in honor ot of their mothers mother s birthday thursday all had an enjoyable time we were favored with home miss fonaries sunday elders hanson and riley C savage from leeds their talk was much appreciated the thre ashing machine that has been thre ashing here has gone to the big plains and will finish here later MODENA modena july 31 miss bliss hilda mouche sister of adolph mouche who came here evne a time ago tor for the ther 1 benefit of her health was taken back to los angeles tor for medical treatment she passed away july 25 at her home in los angeles they have the sympathy of the whole community as she had endeared herself to all the wives ot of 0 L peterson and earl tennis ol 01 the el cobra mining and smelting co have come here from los angeles to spend the summer with their husbands 01 E E mcdowell and C E wormley have gone to short creek ariz to see their old friends and to attend to t 4 business while there mr and mrs arch bond ot of MIlf milfoil orL were here over the visiting hi his parents and little daughters nearly every one from here attend 0 jj ed the carnival at enterprise and all reported a good time 1 we are having a
