Show ed passes gahl mary jane ashworth judd wife of the late thomas judd passed peace fully away at her home in this city at 5 aa a in august 3rd she had been in poor health ever since her husband passed anay at ay and there Is little doubt that she constantly longed tor for him she bad had seemed a little better lately and just the night before her death she attended a motion picture show since she has been in feeble health she has never been left alone her daughter being with her most of the time when she died mrs oliver beinar 1 was lying beside her on the same bed mrs belnap heard her give a sigh at 5 a in looked at her felt her pulse and immediately real iced that the end had come she at once called mrs judd judds s grandson bryant lund and his wife who were sleeping in the next room also mrs judd s son joseph in the next house but sister judd had already passed away mary ashworth was at st louis mo oct 23 1850 a daughter of john and sarah ann ash worth she crossed the plains with her parents while a baby and soon after arriving at salt lake left for cedar city soon after going to beav er city of which place her parents were pioneers she was married to thomas judd in the endowment house salt lake city on october 3 1870 soon after her marriage she accompanied her husband to st george her husband was a famous horticulturist and colonizer and she accompanied him when he was called on to colonize the white river settle ments in nevada lund preston and georgetown she went with her husband to the white river country in 1898 and returned to st george in 1904 after the settlements were well established her husband was the original colonizer of la verkin and she lived there several summers with him spending the winters in st george so that their children could attend school mrs judd is survived by the tol fol lowing children all of whom are married mrs R C lund st george john A la verkin james la verkin mrs bate rate thompson la verkin and joseph W st george also by an adopted son george of la verkin there are 26 grand children and 9 great grandchildren four of her children preceded her in to the great beyond three broth ers survive william ashworth of provo heber ashworth and oliver ashworth of beaver city also two sisters mrs sarah ellen dean of beaver city and mrs laura gates of st george mrs judd was a loving mother a true and devoted wife a kind neigh boi and a true and devoted latter day saint she was a very Indu industry ous woman with a cheerful d dispose tion with a kind word and sunny smile tor for everybody no one was ever known to have gone hungry from the judd home funeral services funeral services were held in the stake tabernacle at 4 p in sunday conducted by elder jas S jones ot of the west ward bishopric choir sang I 1 have head read of A beautiful city prayer was offered by elder B jarvis sr vocal duet there Is A land mrs mamie pax man and miss ruth winsor elder david H morris said we did not come here to mourn but to pay our respects to one of our noblest women he told of the early day hardships patiently endured by sis ter judd who endeared herself to all who knew her best she stood by her husband through everything helping him at all times I 1 knew her intimately was treated like one of her family and felt like one she was a mother to many others besides her own family her husband was i t public man and her home was always open to her husband husbands s friends she was a true latter day saint and laid down her itie ifie in peace she was deeply devoted to her husband and helped him in every possible way she was lonely tor for him and although surrounded by bind kind relatives and friends who did everything they could she longed for her husband her joy now is full tor for she is with her husband and her children who preceded her her love for her children was unbounded I 1 feel I 1 full ull of sympathy for the family but do not feel to mourn sister cornelia brooks told of sis ter judd s work in the relief society of which she was second counselor for a number of years she did not shrink from work and was always very humble she did her work well wel and felt her responsibility we have missed her in the society was bet ter for having been associated with her she had lived a good life an and earned her reward violin solo by prof earl 3 bleak elder jos T atkin considered it a great honor to be privileged to speak at the funeral of the wife of a dear old comrade thomas judd had been acquainted with sister judd tor for a lifetime she was a splendid moth er and always taught her children the blessing of work whenever bro and feister sister judd had gone they had left their mark had never known harder workers sister judd s great est desire in life was to please her family and make her home pleasant tor for her friends and there were leg ions of them had never heard a word against her her hoys boys and girls were all hard workers the greatest legacy that could be left to earn their own lining living elder W 0 bentley said his heart was full of love tor for this dear sister had been a close neighbor to her tor for many years and had lost a dear friend felt like he had lost a moth er bro and sister judd had been like a father and mother to him and had always encouraged him could not have had better neighbors sis ter judd was very affectionate with her family and took great delight in her work there could not be a bet ter wife or a better mother I 1 can not help but feel her loss she had raised a worthy family was a noble woman an honor to st george to utah and to the nation mrs viola haycock sang 0 god my father while I 1 stray elder thomas P cottam expressed himself as believing every word that had been uttered by the speakers at this funeral the devotion of bro dro and sister judd will be long kemem bared they went through a lot of hard work and left their mark be hind sister judd was a dutiful wife and loving mother you children had noble parents emulate their ex ample I 1 believe bro judd has been waiting for his dear wife to join him it is a source of great joy and satis faction to them to have such a good family let us try
