Show D V C DAY STUDENTS GOOD TIME last friday was founders day at the dixie normal college and a right good time was had by students faculty and all connected with that institution A bugle call was given at 8 30 for class formation the line up being as follows freshmen in the lead followed successively by the sophomores juniors seniors and college class A second bugle call sounded tor for the march to begin the route followed was north to the tabernacle corner thence west one block thence down first west street to the river which was crossed to the place selected tor for the days doings a nice level piece of ground just south of the river the college class took the blue ribbon tor for the best marching fourth years second the program rendered at the camp ground follows selection by the band prayer by prof jos X nichols song by the D no C chorus stump speeches given by members of the different classes the college class being represented by geo J to miles sophomores by maurine whipple freshmen by jos F ray seniors by henry J miles and the juniors by fay hall some of the speeches were very witty and all were meritorious applause greeting the class representatives A brass quartet was given by prof earl J bleak and others heading reading by miss marian redd song by the D no C chorus selection by the band followed by class in singing the dixie marching song the seniors were awarded the blue ribbon tor for the best stump speech sophomores Soph mores red ribbon and the college the white ribbon the college class got the blue ribbon tor for singing the school song fourth years second second years third adjournment was then made to a fiat flat place below the hill where each class and the faculty spread their lunch and heartily enjoyed the good things provided merriment and good feeling helped make the feast least one long to be remembered after lunch toasts were given louie woodbury aa as toastmaster hazel bunker represented the fourth years and carried off the blue ribbon helen miles allies carried off second place tor for the sophomores and louie harris took the white ribbon tor for the juniors violate roundy represented the Fresh freshley Fre shies les and leila adair took the red ribbon tor for the college class each class then gave their class yell the first second and third places going respectively to the fourth years third years and college at two the crowd gathered on the flat tat tor for the sports which consisted of competitive obstacle races between the third and fourth the first and second years the first and third years winning each of the classes played a game the col lege winning the blue ribbon the freshler Fresh lea les the red and the juniors the white ribbon the seniors challenged the faculty tor for a leapfrog leap frog trog race which the faculty won the final event was an obstacle race between the Fresh freshley Fre shies les and the juniors the latter winning many citizens rode down to take in the amusements provided by the school the scene was a gay and animated one and class colors were much in evidence the splendid spirit prevailing was good to see and it was not only seen but felt A splendid good time was had by everybody there and judging from the general deportment of the students they evidently feel that it Is good to be identified with the D no 0 the following program was rendered at the home ot of mrs robert asbby ashby nov 20 by the ladles ladies reading and social club club song angry worda words oh let them never talk german culture by mrs brown fifty years of europe by mrs bigelow reading En glands unsheathed sword mrs air morris one chapter of bryan kent rent re read ad by mrs olive snow club song let us treat each other kindly mrs cornelia brooks entertained the ladles ladies at the home of her daughter mrs ashby A very nice lunch was served mr and mrs jacob beacham have A returned to their home at santa clara after spending the summer on their ranch lunch at COU central trill VIA |
