Show AMERICAN RED CROSS HELP 0 la support 0 the third holl call NOT 2 11 officials of the red cross have issued the following statement the american red crosa Is not trading upon its past reputation it is going before the people solely to carry out its peace time program which in many respects Is even larger than was its wartime war time program it is putting sentiment aside it realizes that the people are tired of war war pictures war stories war poetry even the soldier appeal has lost some of its force not that the public is ungrateful to the soldier tor what he did but it wants to get away from a war that it did not cause that it did not seek and get back to brass tacks to carry out its pledge made during the war the red cross must continue to extend its service to the men still in the army and navy to their families at home to discharged soldiers not yet adjusted readjusted re to the routine of civilian life and to boys convalescing in military and naval hospitals in certain portions of europe the red cross must still care for undernourished babies and for the aged and infirm and must assist war ravaged countries to organize their own resources to preserve the vitality and life of their own people the red cross will continue to carry its already established system to national and inter national relief to mitigating the suffering caused by famine fire flood and great national calamities it also must be prepared to give service to the standing forces of our military and naval establishments it must continue its services undertaken prior to the war in the field of nursing and must maintain its course in first aid dietetics and home care of the sick while all these responsibilities at home and abroad have steadily lessened in volume and scope and are gradually moving toward oblivion they cannot be abandoned until they are properly and fully met |
