Show been on three fronts and in several drives A ek F france nov 6 1918 mr john R walls st george utah dear fultor I 1 have not written or the washington county news before or taken I 1 up your kind offer but have read the home paper with just as much pleasure as any one I 1 got it from i the other dixie boys who receive it and I 1 always expected it just as much as a letter from home and it it dian didn t come just when I 1 thought it should I 1 would miss it very much belloy cox and I 1 are still together of the seven dixie boys that left a year ago last nov we are in the same platoon he Is in F bat and I 1 am in E bat the rest are scattered in otha divisions when I 1 left dixie little did I 1 think t would see france but I 1 have seen france and with it I 1 saw and have had many exciting experiences it Is a little better than nine months since I 1 left the states and I 1 have been on the front tor tour months I 1 have been on three different fronts and been in many drives it is very exciting to see air battles and at times to see aeroplanes aero planes tall from the sky the large gun I 1 am on is doing some rapid firing now I 1 am on shift from twelve 0 clock at midnight until twelve at noon whenever we are off shift we always stay in our dugout or else close to it I 1 am in my dugout writing this letter sometimes we get the dally mall here or new york herald and other times we don t get to see a newspaper for a week or two the soldiers are indeed glad to hear that some of the countries are giving up the enemy seems to be feeling the weight of the americans more every day I 1 dont think it will be long until fritz will give up but it Is hard to tell just how much longer they will try to hang on hoping to get the washington county news soon I 1 am as ever your dixie friend carpl ferd battery B F A american E F france fifteen thousand men a day are served on an average by each of the sixteen american red cross canteens on ohp italian front sixteen of these canteens are portable |
