knew too that the old method when the school master was more of a master than a teacher had already proved its inability to meet the required demands some method ly which the teachers could devote their entire attention to real teaching and still have the students provided with ohp necessary discipline in self government was what we were striving for the faculty ever on the alert to help us in our endeavor to make better men and women of ourselves gave the problem of discipline into the hands of the student boda to deal with as they thought best feeling that they would realize the importance of trust and fill it to the best of their ability accordingly a mass meeting was held and a set of officers chosen such as president vicc secretary and treasurer chief of police judge etc and they set out to further organize the system while no bonous mistakes were made still they did not feel perfectly satisfied batis fied with alie re suits accordingly ft hen alio second school year bagan and the necessity for a nev election presented itself it was decided to replace the old ss tern with the new commission form of city government the power to be vested in a chief commissioner a commissioner each of finance amusements athletics discipline correspondence public speaking and debating a judge and a school attorney bv this method each officer had charge of a certain department of school activity and could therefore be held responsible for any mistakes made in his particular field of work while the chief commissioner acted as a head to bring all departments together thua preventing any over stepping of power each commis wag given the right to select other students to help him carry on the work of his department holding them responsible to him for their actions the recall referendum and initiative inita tive w is adopted ing alie students against any infringement tipon their rights by any one of the several officers it did not take long to show to all the advantage of this system over the former one and they all their loyalty to it by holding it in reverence as something they had adopted for their own good after one years trial it had lost nono of its favor and was therefore re adopted this year though a nev set of officers had to be chosen to fill the vacancies left by the out going commissioners two parties were organized and platforms drawn up caucuses rallies and elections were held by the students and when the new officers were elected all settled down again with the full determination to uphold them so long as they endeavored to fill their places to the best of their ability the untold benefits that have resulted to every student in our academy from the of this trust is self evident to anyone who has seen the cliance that has
