Show DRY LAND FARMING our santa clara correspondent in a communication to this paper a week ago mentioned the fact that dry land wheat was out and looking rood that mean that it will make an excellent crop in tho near future this 13 proof that the dixie climate 11 well suited to this eastern of farming and tho good crops obtained the previous pi evious season is further evidence of this fact we believe the reason for this is the fact that the giacin gets a rood start ire fore cold weather sets in and its growth is retarded to a very slight extent during our mild winter then i hen spring opens up its growth is so rapid that it completely shades alie ground before the hot dry ci can effect it to any great extent then too we believe the sandy soil of this region holds water good when cultivation is practiced go that grain will mature here etith even less rainfall than is in other places chero the soil and climate is not BO favorable whether tins theory is right or not docs not matter the fact remains that the country will produce good dry land crops and there is lots of it that can bo put to thia beneficial and useful purpose there ought to be more of this dry land producing we need the wheat and have to import flour that should be iliade at home we have a mill here that does apt lun all the time because enough wheat is not grown yet the dry land will produce the wheat if advantage is taken of the opportune time to sow it there 13 lots of land in dixie just as good as that upon which the santa clara farmers are growing dry land grain and it should be producing this appears to us to be the pooi mans opportunity |
