Show Dixie College News Miss Roene Bigler, a former student stu-dent of Dixie, gave a vocal concert con-cert last Friday in the regular assembly. Her numbers were, in the main, classical. Miss Bigler has an excellent voice and pleased the students as she had done many times when she attended the college col-lege here. D. J. C. The freshman class at the college col-lege has been adjudged the winner win-ner of the assembly contest, held during the past month. The class will give its program at Hurricane Hurri-cane and at the B. A. C. D. J. C. Spring quarter registration is somewhat lighter than usual, but most of the students who are not immediately ' called into military service, or who are not required to work, are continuing with their work. A few new- students have registered. D.J.C. The college is in receipt of a sizable collection of pressed plants from Jack Rencher, former student stu-dent president. Jack had collected them while off work duty in Seattle, Wash. D. J. C. Major Terry of Mather Field, Sacramento, Calif., was in St. George the early part of this week to review the facilities here for an Army cadet unit. He came in a Lockheed Hudson bomber, the largest plane yet to land locally. The unit, if located nere, would bring up to 500 trainees. Major Terry expressed himself as being satisfied with conditions in general. gen-eral. The big problem is one of housing and feeding so many extra men." A committee of college and community officials is working on this problem now, and it is hoped that something might be worked out. Major Terry was particularly pleased with the college equipment equip-ment and faculty. D. J. C A new class in sheet metal is starting at the college this week. Floyd Ence is the instructor. He was recently employed at the local airport and will continue to spend some time there. Mr. Ence received re-ceived his training in sheet metal work at Dixie and has since received re-ceived training at Lockheed. D. J. C. The Hurricane high school will present its play, "Laughing Irish Eyes", here Monday night, Mar. 5th, at 8 o'clock in the college auditorium. The play is directed by Mrs. Tess Tyler, instructor of speech at Hurricane, and is a pleasing comedy, well-known to most people. The Omega Delta club, college dramatic fraternity, is in charge of ticket sales and will usher at the performance. D. J. C . Due to the fact that many of the football boys are leaving for the military service, football awards were made in Wednesday's Wednes-day's assembly. The following boys were honored: Harold Hammond, Ham-mond, Grant Snow, Carl Church, Joseph Christensen, Junior Neil-son, Neil-son, Dwayne Anderson, Gerald Stott, John Belingheri, Clinton Sampson, Arnold Leavitt, Gilbert Tobler, Val Dean Utley, Victor Frei, Glendon Graff and Leslie Hafen. |
