Show Turkey Men Hold Check-Up Meet In St. George, Men. St. George Poultryman First To Enter K. O. P. Turkey Program An important check-up meeting for the turkey growers of Washington Wash-ington county was held Monday evening in the office of Anson Call, county argicultural agent, with Prof. Carl Freschnecht, extension ex-tension poultryman, in attendance. Mr. Freschnecht is in charge of Pullorum disease control in Utah and made this rush trip to St. George to check up with the blood testers throughout the county, before leaving for Washington, Wash-ington, D. C. where he has been given a special assignment. Another important reason for Mr. Freschnecht's visit at this time was to band the ROP birds being raised by R.obert Phillips of St. George. Mr. Phillips is the first in this area to enter the Record Of Performance program with his turkeys and Mr. Freschnecht Fresch-necht wants him to get off to a good start and personally direct the banding of the birds before leaving for the national capitol. Every Pullorum blood tester of the county was present at the Monday night meeting, reports Mr. Call and a careful check was made of the testing done thus far. Wing bands of birds which have responded to the tests were brought in. This is the third test for some flocks, says Mr. Call, and others will follow as the season advances, according to plans of this program. The results re-sults of these tests show that the majority of the flocks are in good condition, while other flocks have evidence of the disease. The blood testing of flocks is being carefully followed and closely close-ly recorded in an effort to stamp out the disease in this area. Under no circumstances are the hatching eggs to be sold from flocks which have as high as a five per cent response to the test. Mr. Freschnecht commended the testers of this area for the fine work they are doing and urged continued prosecution of this, program. |
