Show Used Clothing Goal Set For War Relief "One hundred fifty million pounds of good, used women's, men's and children's clothing," is the goal set by the nation for the 'spring drive, to meet the desperate need of the thousands of people being liberated all over the world. The task of handling the drive is assigned as-signed to the Rotary clubs, who will work in cooperation with other clubs wherever possible. Plans for the drive in Washington Washing-ton county were discussed by the St. George Rotary club at their Monday luncheon meeting. Inasmuch Inas-much as the entire county is to be visited during the next ten days on the Red Cross War Fund drive, it was decided to ask these committees to carry the message of the 'used clothing drive" with them, and ask people to begin at once to assemble all the clothing they can spare for men, women and children, and have it properly cleaned for turning in to the various var-ious centers. In sending out the call, the national committee declares that "the need is desperate and every community, large or small, will have to be thoroughly organized to assure the success of this great drive, and in bringing relief to civilian sufferers in devastated, liberated countries, where almost as many people are dying from exposure due to lack of adequate clothing, as are dying from starvation. star-vation. Collecting Center As in the "Clothes for Russia" drive, centers are being set up in various towns for collecting the clothing contributions. In St. George, Mayor D. C. Watson has made the City Office the general collecting center. All those who cannot bring in their offerings are asked to contact the committee and the bundles will be collected. - The suggestion is made that with the approach of spring, people will be sorting over their winter clothing for summer storage, stor-age, and that this will be an ideal time to assemble the articles which they can contribute to this 1945 "Used Clothing Drive." Based on the success of the "Clothes for Russia" drive, the Washington county sponsors feel they can anticipate generous cooperation and response to this' call for used clothes for other destitute peoples in the battle areas. |
