Show B. Y. U. To Open for 1943 Registration; Date Set for Oct. 1st With a full educational, cultural and social program outlined for the 1943-44 school year," Brigham Young uiversity has set Oct. 1, 2 and 4 as registration dates, announces an-nounces President Franklin S. Harris. Classes will commence on October Oc-tober 5, following registration and freshmen placement examinations, examin-ations, President Harris said, adding add-ing that plans were nearing completion com-pletion for freshman orientation week, Oct. 1-5, under the direction direc-tion of Dean Wesley P. Lloyd, chairman of the university orientation ori-entation committee. BYU, he said, is offering a complete curriculum in all colleges, col-leges, with 38 departments. The institution, he continued, is offering of-fering a broad, liberal education and is at the same time, making available classes needed for specialization, spe-cialization, and courses helpful for students anticipating military training. Cooperating With Government Although BYU is cooperating with the government in training 250 soldier-cadets under the Army specialized training program, President Harris specified that all of the facilities of the institution insti-tution are still open to regular non-military students, and pointed out that the scheduling committee, commit-tee, under the direction of Dr. Russell Swenson, has worked out a dual program of study for these two groups. In spite of the influx of workers work-ers caused by the erection of the new Geneva steel mill, the Student Stu-dent Accommodations committee of the university has expressed optimism concerning student housing due to generous response from townspeople, and because the university is adding several new co-op dormitories to the university uni-versity facilities already available. Opportunities for part-time work for students in the Provo area are plentiful, Dean Wesley P. Lloyd reports, pointing out the need for help at the Geneva steel mill, in Provo business houses, as well as on the campus. Student body officers are planning plan-ning full programs of activity, as are the officers of the individual indi-vidual social units and other organizations org-anizations on the campus. For the advantage of those prospective pros-pective students who will be unable un-able to attend school during the autumn quarter due to the abun- dant crop this fall, President Harris announces that beginning classes in almost every college and department will be repeated during the winter quarter which begins Jan. 4th. |
