Show Many Fail To Register For Utah Civilian Defense Program In Utah The compiled report bf the local committee from the American Legion, Lester Keate Post No. 90, no the Utah Civilian registration for the State Defense Council, in case of emergency, indicates either the citizens failed to remember the date for such registration, or lacked sufficient information to make them sense the necessity of each citizen registering, who is capable of rendering . any one of the numerous services that could be and may be a necessity. Registered As Family Groups .Of the 65 who registered, it is noted that the interest was manifest mani-fest by family groups, rather than by independent citizens. This was not of people lacking or needing employment, but people who are willing, should emergency arise, to give aid along one of the various lines of service in which they have capacity. Many cities and towns registered almost 100 per cent, it is reported, and in spite of the failure of many local citizens to register, it is certain the community com-munity as a whole will serve willingly will-ingly should the need arise. However, How-ever, it would be a great saving of time under any emergency, if by such a record, the State Defense De-fense Council could know just who in each community could serve and how they could serve. Listed under the five major divisions, di-visions, the questionnaire includes various possible phases of volunteer volun-teer services in Planning, Protection, Protec-tion, Necessities, Communication, and Public Utilities. Among the many items suggested are fields of activity in one or more of which almost any normal citizen could function. Checking the registration it is noted that most of the men are (Continued on page five) Civilian Defense (Continued from first page) listed under Morale and Industrial in the Planning Division; under Police and Debris Clearance in Protection; Housing and Emergency Emerg-ency Shelters, Education and Recreation Rec-reation in Necessities; Transpor- tation under Communication, and ! water and Sanitation under Public ' Utilities. 1 Registration Differs 1 Women on the other hand listed j chiefly for registration under the i Planning Division; a few for First j Aid under Protection; more for Food and Clothing under Necessi- ties; two for Telephone service, 1 who are not at present telephone ! operators locally; and of course 1 none under Public Utilities, which i is to be expected. With all the local material there 1 was not one registration for Medi- i cal, only one under Radio, two j or three under Rescue and Evacu- i ation, and many other items were j neglected. 1 It is still possible for a few i to register with K. M. Cannon at the Elementary school building. 1 What will tthe citizens do about ! it? |
