Show Interest In St. George Aroused By Mr. And Mrs. Laron S. Andrus Pulling St. George on the map in an interesting manner is being ilone by Mr. and Mrs. Larson S. Andrus as they journey to Toronto, Tor-onto, Canada, to attend Rotary International. Mr. Andrus is president pres-ident of the St. George Rotar-ians Rotar-ians and Secretary of the Cham-licr Cham-licr of Commerce, and this trip, lie stales is really a honeymoon for he and Mrs. Andrus. News of their passing through P.iishnell, Nebraska, came Sunday in a fine letter from C. G. Wilcox Wil-cox of that city. ' We reproduce it in part: Eushnell, Nebraska, June 20, 1942. Miss Mable Jarvis, St. George, Utah. Dear Miss Jarvis: "At the garage in this village I saw a fine couple who gave me the inclosed card and said you are able to answer my inquiry. in-quiry. "They must have been Mr. and Mrs. Andrus, I judge. I noticed no-ticed that their car tore a Utah number plate, and I just hailed them for some information. "I have heard that the Latter Day Saints practice tithing, and I have often wondered what sort of rules would apply to our modern mod-ern conditions." Mr. Wilcox then presents a possible situation in an interesting interest-ing manner and states he will be glad to receive literature or other information on the subject. sub-ject. Needless to say we shall do our best to give the correct information in replying to this inquiry, in-quiry, obtaining verification of same from the proper local authorities. au-thorities. This problem is frequently presented pre-sented to the missionary guides at the Temple Bureau and usually usual-ly a satisfactory workout is possible, pos-sible, since the Law of Tithing as understood by the L. D. S. Church is based on no hard and fast set of rules, but offers the individual an opportunity to determine for himself what is the increase on which he offers his Tenth to the Lord, as explained ex-plained in the Old Testament, this being a totally free will offering, but none the less an accepted obligation on the part of the individual who assumes to keep the full measure of the law. Letters like these are always welcomed, and especially one such as this that brings good word from home folks. |
