Show Co. X' Round-Up So much has happened to a little band of St. George fellows in the last 20 days that it seems strange. Hafen and Robertson went to the Air Corps on the 15th of April. A few days later Snow and Hansen Han-sen went to the air corps. On April 20th, 54 men were called out of Company "C", of which there were six St. Georger's. They were: Robert Riding, Reid Graff, Rex Stratton, Estill Payne, Vernon Hemengway and Adrian Bunting. They formed a new Engineer Regiment. Regi-ment. Latest word from them is that they are in Canada. On April 25th, our convoy moved mov-ed out of Camp Roke at Lompoac, Calif., which brought the remainder remaind-er of Company "C" to Fort Lewis, Wash., on May 1st. This trip will be well-remembered for a long time to come, because 75 per cent of the company strength was granted grant-ed passes at each stop. Our stopover stop-over points were Madera, Calif., Willows, Calif.; Klammath Falls, Ore.; Madras, Ore.; Fort Vancouver Van-couver at Vancouver, Wash.; and Fort Lewis. Fort Lewis is by far the nicest place that Company "C" has been. Although it rains, quote "C" Company: Com-pany: "365 days out of the year, and the rest of the time it is getting ready to stop". All our Sergeants had their side-arms side-arms taken from them. They were replaced by the M I rifle, the same as the privates use. Such luck! Privates had to show them how to field strip them. Sgt. Chelf is our Company Comedian. Com-edian. He used to be our Mess Sgt. before he got out for age. Since he returned; they put him in charge of a squad. Before a month ago he never did any butts manual, man-ual, close order drill, or stood any guard. He is what the fellows call a "Good Joe". : Today at noon . was the first time since Dec. 7th that Co. "C" has eaten from dishes that were china. Or rather, today was the first day we didn't have to do our dishes. May 2nd, we had the privilege of sleeping in a bed with sheets for the first time since Dec. 7th. It looks like we will be able to keep up the practice. (We hope!) Private Joe. |
