Show D.U.P. Presents 115th Engineers With Its Own Utah State Flag The boys of Company C, 115th Combat Engineers now in San Luis Obispo will have their Utah flag this week. This was made possible by the action of the Daughters of the Pioneers at their recent meeting. The flag was mailed Saturday by Hazel Brad-shaw, Brad-shaw, who wrote the following letter to accompany the gift. At our last monthly meeting of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Pion-eers, the suggestion was made by one of our members that we purchase pur-chase a Utah flag for our boys of the Utah National Guard. The suggestion met with unanimous approval, and the donations came in almost faster than I could write the names of the donors. I am enclosing the list to you for they each send their greetings and best wishes along with the flag. Not As As Well-Known Though our Utah flag isn't as old nor as well known as our National flag, it should become (Continued on page six) D. U. P. Presents Flag 'Continued from first page) just as dear to us as the years go by, for it means all that home means to the Utah National Guard, and should fly just under the stars and stripes. Until very recently, re-cently, only hand made Utah flags were available, which made them too expensive for common use, hence we haven't become acquainted ac-quainted with our state emblem. Nevertheless, it now hangs in buildings throughout the world where Utah is represented, and is loved and respected by all her native sons and daughters. The Utah division of the National Na-tional Guard has already been classed by National authorities as the finest group of men in our nation, so I'm sure you'll be proud to carry on under Utah's banner. We have long been told by our leaders that at some future time the descendents of our Pioneers Pion-eers would be the force that would preserve our nation. Whether this privilege is near at hand or not, only time can tell, but we do want you to know that the mothers of our State are all praying for you that you may so live that you will be ready for every glorious opportunity. op-portunity. Cannon Westcott said "Great Occasions do not make heroes or cowards; they simply unveil them to the eyes of men." We know that of all the fine Utah boys, our local unit has the finest, and we know that you will have the courage, always, to be true to yourselves, worthy sons of Utah, The Queen of the West. May the unchanging, protecting folds of our Utah banner ever inspire in-spire you to be true to its ideals, and return to us in all the purity and strength of noble manhood. Our thoughts and hopes and prayers are with you wherever you go, and we all join -in sending you our love and best wishes. As ever yours, The Daughters of .the Utah Pioneers of St. George By Hazel Bradshaw, vice-president. , When the flag was ordered, the local camp was commended for this thoughtfulness and were told that this is the second only such flag to -be sent to the Unit at the training camp. It is hoped this gesture will further assure the St. George unit that the folks at home are not forgetting them and what they represent. |
