Leavitt at Funeral Service July 30 GUNLOCK, Utah High tribute was paid to Mrs. Mary Ellen Huntsman Leavitt, 85, at funeral services held for her in Gunlock ward chapel Thursday, August 2, at 4 p. m. Mrs. Leavitt died at 9 a. m. Monday, July 30, of heart attack after several weeks of illness. ill-ness. Bp. Henry Bowler conducted conduct-ed the services. Music numbers were a mixed quartet, "Oh, My Father" by-vMr. and Mrs. F. J. Bowler, Mrs. Mildred Mild-red Marshall and Ivan Hunt, with Mrs. Irma Bracken accompanying; accompany-ing; vocal solos, "That Wonderful Mother of Mine" and "Little Mother of the Hills" by Vernon Worthen of St. George accompanied accom-panied by Miss Elaine Perkins; and "End Of A Perfect Day" by Mrs. Marshall, with Mrs. Bracken at the piano. First speaker was F. J. Bowler, Gunlock ward bishop for many years. He said in part, "Aunt (Continued on page three) Leavitt Funeral (Continued from rrrst page) Ella was a woman of great courage cour-age and accomplishment. Her hands were never idle. She devot-; devot-; ed her life to her family, her church, her town and her friends, finding hundreds of opportunities to serve which others overlooked. Among those who will miss her most are the dozens of servicemen, service-men, her grandsons and others, whom she has cheered with her letters, cards and gifts." He told also of her 15 children, 11 of whom are living, and of their devotion to her, and the love and respect she had from all who knew her. Other speakers were Hyrum Jones, a. life-long neighbor; Dr. A. W. McGregor, a grand son-in-law, Ralph Huntsman, a nephew, and Bp. Henry BowleF. All paid high tribute to Mrs. Leavitt and her family from their respective associations, and Mrs. Henry Bowler read a letter of appreciation apprecia-tion for the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Leavit from President Harold S. Snow. Original tributes in verse were read by Mrs. Henry Graff of Santa Clara and Mabel Jarvis of St. George. Present for the services were Mrs. Leavitt's nine living daugh- ters and two sons, a daughter-in-law, many grand, and greatgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, her only living liv-ing brother, Solon Huntsman of Las Vegas, and her childhood schoolmate, 84-year-old Edith Tait of Enterprise. There were many floral offerings. Prayers were by Arthur F. Miles and Ivan Hunt. Burial was in the Gunlock cemetery and the grave was dedicated by George E. Miles, stake patriarch. |
