Show St. George Stake Conference Held Here Sunday Bishop's Storehouse Dedicated Here As Highlight of Conference Concern for the spiritual well-being well-being of church members, humanity hu-manity in general, and especially of the boys in the armed forces furnished the background for the addresses given during- the sessions ses-sions of St. George stake quarterly quar-terly conference held in the Tabernacle Tab-ernacle Sunday. The highlight of the day was the dedication of the stake Bishop's Storehouse, which was held as the concluding conference con-ference session. Apostle Richards Attends Officially attending the conference confer-ence from Salt Lake City were Apostle George F. Richards, who directs the Temple work throughout the church, and his son, Joel Richards, of the Emigration Emigra-tion stake .high council. There was a good attendance from all wards of the stake, and special vocal numbers were presented by the laides' chorus of Pine Valley ward under the direction of Prof. Earl J. Bleak, with Mrs. Rex Gardner at the piano. Vernon Worthen of the stake presidency who was absent on school duties, was offiically excused. The priesthood session of conference con-ference was held in the Tabernacle Taber-nacle basement at 9:30 a.m., with a good attendance reported. At 1:30 p.m., a welfare meeting was held at which time Pres. Harold S. Snow reported the progress the stake is making in the filling of its 1943 budget assignment, and called on members for help during the next three weeks in the harvesting harv-esting of the cane crop and making mak-ing of molasses. Apostle Richards Rich-ards spoke again sounding the church call for people now oh federal pensions turn to the church and to their own families for assistance. Bishop Joel Richards Rich-ards reviewed the progress made thus far in the Church Welfare program, emphasizing what is being be-ing accomplished in conservation of foods at the present time. Conducts Singing At the general session's Joseph W. McAllister, stake chorister, conducted the congregational singing sing-ing with Mrs. Mae A. Pace, accompanying. ac-companying. Special numbers by the Pine Valley chorus included. "Beloved Homeland", and "Holiness "Holi-ness Bccometh the House of the Lord": a trio with Mrs. Malin (Continued on page five) St. George Conference (Continued from first page) Cox, Ralston Barber and Mrs. Irwin Johnson sang, "Homeland"; and Kenneth Tobler sang, "I Am A Mormon Missionary", by Herbert Herb-ert Auerbach, Utah composer. Special business of the meetings meet-ings included the reorganization of the stake Relief Society, stake Sunday school and stake Primary presidencies, and sustaining of general and local authorities of the church and stake. Kenneth Tobler of Santa Clara reported his mission labors in the east central states and Julian Hall reported re-ported his missionary work in the north central states. Vivian J. Frei, of the stake presidency reviewed the attendance attend-ance reports of organizations and quorums and urged a reawakening reawaken-ing of priesthood members to their duties, especially as ward teachers in carrying the gospel message. Pres. Harold S. Snow talked on the response members should give to calls of those in authority, emphasizing spiritual values to be obtained. In their addresses at both the forenoon and afternoon general sessions, Apostle Richards and his son, Joel, expressed concern for the spiritual welfare of humanity in the time of world unrest and with money being made easily. They urged parents to be concerned con-cerned for their children and for their sons in the service and to devote themselves to prayer and righteousness of the gospel. Spiritual Welfare. Concern The. dedication of the St. George stake Bishop's Storehouse occurred occur-red at 5:30 p. m a large audience audi-ence assembling in front of the building for this purpose. Congregational Cong-regational singing of two numbers and a vocal solo, "This House We Dedicate", by Mrs. Pratt Miles, completed the music numbers. President Snow gave a review of the erection of the building, placing plac-ing the cost, including the molasses molas-ses refinery and the storage sheds, at upwards of $13,000, along with j equipment. Apostle Richards commended the welfare work being done at this unit and the welfare program of the church generally and urged the people to do their utmost in conserving food for use in time of need, offering a brief but stimulating stim-ulating dedicatory prayer. Other prayers were by Wallace Iverson of Washington ward and Byron H Taylor of the Center ward, both of whom are officers in the stake welfare program. Praise was given to Cleo Sullivan for his excellent care of the storehouse store-house and surroundings and supervision super-vision of the canning and other work done at the buildings. A tour of the buildings followed the services. |
