Show Scene On Dixie Game Preserve With what promises to be one of the most successful deer hunt-i hunt-i n g seasons getting underway next Tuesday, October 20, out-of-town hunters are beginning to arrive and red caps are now becoming be-coming the "season's latest." Those who annually make a business of taking care of deer hunters report that reservations have come earlier this year than ever before. Many of the camps state that all of their available accomodations are now reserved and more reservations are still coming in. Bryan Lund, president of the local game association, cites the reason for this is the fact that out of 900 out-of-state hunters who hunted on the Dixie forest, 8 6 of them checked out with their deer. And not only did j they get their deer, but letters from these hunters indicate that many of them have secured their most prized trophies in this district. dis-trict. Forestry officials are anxious that hunters use every precaution. precau-tion. With less fires recorded on the Dixie forest this year, officials are urging that deer hunters do everything possible to maintain this record. They call attention to the fact that at the present time is one of the worst times of the year for fire danger. An extreme fire hazard exists on the forest until at least after the closing of the deer hunt. Regulations Every hunter must register. at the checking stations upon enter- ing the preserve. There he is given a metal tag which he must wear at all times while on the preserve. The registration fee a small and is used to help defray this expense. Every hunter while hunting must also wear a. red cap. No doe permits are being issued this year. Only buck deer with horns at least five inches long may be shot. The purpose of regulated hunting hunt-ing is: (1) to control the hunters; hunt-ers; (2) secure accurate data 'on numbers killed and removed; (3) to confine hunting to areas where the greatest congestion and damage dam-age is; (4) to see that state laws are being complied with, and (5;)i to see that nothing is killed hat is not provided by law. |
