Show Postoffice Contract Awarded St. Louis Construction Firm The McDonald construction company com-pany of St. Louis was the low bidder on the St. George Post-office Post-office building to be constructed here, according to William Brooks, postmaster. The bid submitted by the company was for $55,706. Official confirmation of the letting let-ting of the contract has not been received by Mr. Brooks, however indications are that this company com-pany will be awarded the contract. Plans and specifications were submitted for bidders last year following the appropriation by congress. Bids were called for but all proved to be too high so that it was necessary for the treasury department architects to revise the plans to come within the allotment.. The new building will be constructed con-structed on the corner of Tabernacle Taber-nacle and 1st East It will be approximately 61 by 59 feet. The site was purchased from David H. Morris, Ed Miles and Mrs. Lottie R. Carter after several other sites had been considered. Treasury department architects at Washington prepared the plans and specifications, which call for a one-story and basement building build-ing of brick and native stone. The post office will occupy the main floor, which will contain a postmaster's post-master's office, work room, money order section, employees' swing room and lobby. Four office rooms and two supply rooms will be provided pro-vided on the lower floor, in addition addi-tion to furnace room and fuel room. Offices already arranged for, in addition to the post office, are county agent and the airways division di-vision of the commerce department. depart-ment. Cement walks and driveways drive-ways will be built around the new building, with landscape plans calling for lawn and shrubbery next year. A full concrete driveway drive-way will lead to a large loading platform at the rear. The building build-ing will face Tabernacle street, Mr. Brooks said. Receipts at the St. George office now total about $12,000 annually, annu-ally, he said. |
