Show HEWS OF THE COUNTY SEAT Members of the Diana Club met I at the home of Evelyn Smith last Thursday night and had a shower for Anne Nielson who is soon to be married to Lee Cox. She received re-ceived many beautiful gifts, among them a dinner set which was presented pre-sented by the club as a whole, with some of the girls presenting gifts individually. Miss Erma Bentley left Wednesday Wednes-day for Salt Lake City on a business trip. She accompanied her brother-in-law, Frank Holland. Miss Margaret Mitchell returned return-ed Tuesday from a week's vacation vaca-tion in Los Angeles. Mrs. Donald Schmutz left on Monday evening for San Francisco I where she will attend the funeral I services of her brother-in-law, Hugh M. Woodward. Woodrow Bates returned to his home in Hurricane last Friday j from the local hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Nelson arrived Monday evening from Fillmore Fill-more accompanied by their sister, Lena Nelson, who has been visit- i ing there and in Salt Lake City. I The three will leave Friday to i spend a week visiting relatives I in Ely and Lund, Nev. and in other parts of Utah. I Walter Cannon motored to Los Angeles over the week end. Mrs. I Cannon and daughter, Ramona, who have spent several days there, returned with him. Mrs. Tina Macfarlane left Wednesday Wed-nesday for Salt Lake City to visit and on business. She expects to j be gone two weeks. I Miss Eleanor Roper returned Tuesday from Salt Lake City where she has been employed the past two months. . Miss Mary Whitehurst accompanied accom-panied by Annie Laurie McGregor, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. L. W. McGregor left last week for Provo and Salt Lake City where they planned to visit several days before be-fore going on to San Francisco to complete their vacation. Mrs. Leo G. Smith entertained the postal employees at a buffet dinner at her home Tuesday evening eve-ning following the play "In the Tide of Empire" the occasion honoring her husband on his birthday anniversary. Mrs. Smith's mother, Mrs. William Atkin Sr., was hostess at a family dinner in Mr. Smith's honor at noon the same day, and being also, their son, Leo's birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Shirk of Cedar City were guests of Mrs. Shirk's mother, Mrs. Sina Bunting Bunt-ing Sunday night and Monday on their way home from the San Francisco Fair. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bunting are on vacation visiting relatives in Idaho and touring Yellowstone National Park. Their sons are spending the month with their grandmother, Mrs. Sina Bunting. . Miss Jane Pace left last Tuesday Tues-day for Cedar City where she is spending the week with relatives. 7? 7? 7f I Mrs. Harry Pearce returned late Monday from a trip to Nephi' and Provo to visit relatives. Zeph Thomas and his three sons left Wednesday morning for their home in Marshfield, Oregon, following fol-lowing a few days visit with relatives rela-tives here. They had brought their mother here to be buried. Mrs. W. A. Nelson returned on Sunday from Salt Lake City accompanied ac-companied by her daughter, Althea Rose and her father, E. B. Snow, who have spent the past six weeks there. Mrs. Edgar R. Simpson and son, Richard, returned from a three week's vacation on the coast on last Friday. She was accompanied home by Mr. Simpson's aunt, Mrs. Alice Gove, who will spend a short time here visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Russell and son, Darwin, and Mrs. Russell's Rus-sell's father, B. F. Pendleton, returned re-turned Monday evening from a 10 day vacation visiting Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Taysom and family in Lovell, Wvo. Miss Jessie Empey returned on Saturday from visiting in Las Vegas and Boulder City. Mr. and Mrs. George F. White-bead White-bead and daughter, Edna Bentley. attended the funeral services in OrderviIle Sunday for Henry ! Chamberlain, who was a former I ordinance worker at the St. i George Temple when Mr. Vhite- ! head was president. j Miss Leila Huntsman left on Monday for Las Vegas where she will be a guest this week of her grandmother Huntsman, who with other relatives. have planned social affairs in her honor prior to her September marriage to , Howard Mayhew of Pasadena. Among the many relatives and friends coming from out of town to attend the funeral services for Maude Rencher Thomas were Mason Snow and daughter, Mrs. Rose Ricks, and Mr. and Mrs. ( Orin Snow, of Price; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Abbott and Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Abbott and daughter, daugh-ter, Maxine, of Bunkerville; Ku- men Gardner, New Castle; Mr. and- Mrs. Leonard Sargeant, James Sargeant and daughter, Dr. ; and Mrs. Wyatt W. Miles, all of , Panguitch; Don Price and Claude Cowley, of Price; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Price and family, of Panaca, Nev.; Mr. and Mrs. Grant Price and children of Reno, Nev.; Andrew Price, of Las Vegas; Mr. 1 and Mrs. H. G. Hopkins and son, Miss Lou Penrose, and Miss Irene Jones, all of Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Kumen Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mathis are in Salt Lake City on business. They will also attend the Legion-aire Legion-aire convention in Ogden. Mrs. Merle Adams, Mrs. Theo Dill of St. George and Mrs. John A. Keller of Logandale are surgery patients at the local hospital. Miss Rhea Cottam left for her home in Escalante Monday. -Prof. W. H. Bussey Jr. arrived from Minneapolis, Minn. August 8, coming by plane as far as Las Vegas, to be with his son, David Bussey, who had suffered an acute attack of appendicitis enroute to California and remained at the local hospital for surgery. The patient is reported making rapid recoverv. J The T.A.R. club member were guests Wednesday evening of IMrs. LaVera Tobler at her apartment, with honors being shared by Winnie Win-nie Prince, Mary R. Bowler and Marva Hemenway. . Mrs. Hannah N. Snow left on Monday with her son, Vernon, to visit in Pinto, until the end of the warm weather. Dr. and Wendell Robinson arrived ar-rived last Friday from Hemet, Calif., to visit until the end of this week. Doctor Robinson, Dr. Jack Ahlstrom and Howard Ahl-strom Ahl-strom are spending the week on a fishing trip. Mrs. Robinson and her mother, Mrs. Minnie Ahlstrom motored to Cedar City Wednesday to visit relatives. Mrs. W. H. Manning and daughter-in-law, Olga Manning and Mrs. Lawrence Kleinman, accompanied the Cedar City play cast to St. George Tuesday evening. Mrs. Mack Jackson is making an extended visit in St. George. A. K. Hafen and daughter, Ada, motored to Manti last Friday to attend the Temple sessions. Miss Helen Empey is leaving this week end to visit with her aunt, Mrs. Ella Dansby and other relatives in Burbank, Calif. Miss Joyce Wilkin underwent an appendectomy at the local hospital hos-pital on August 8. Her mother, Olive L. Wilkin, who has been absent for several months, returned re-turned Saturday to be with her daughter. w w w Mr. and Mrs. A. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Brooks motored to Salt Lake City on Monday on business, planning to return late in the week. Moody, daughter Beverley and son, Olsen, returned late Saturday Satur-day from Berkeley. Calif., where Mr. Moody has attended summer school and the two children have j been enrolled in the summer training train-ing school. They returned via Yosemite National Park, where they spent Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd L. Hansen of Los Angeles arrived Saturday I to visit relatives in St. George for j two weeks. Max McArthur arrived Wednesday Wednes-day from Los Angeles and will visit the remainder of the summer with Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pectol. Mrs. Hyrum Thomas was hostess hos-tess last Thursday evening to 30 Leonas, the party being given on the lawns fronting the Thomas home. The evening was devoted to a variety of games followed by a melon feast. Miss Fawn Schmutz left Sunday for Salt Lake City to be absent for the week. . The Bridge Ettes were guests Wednesday of Mrs. Bud Seeg-miller Seeg-miller with honors going to Mrs. Carl Hutchings and Mrs. Andrew McArthur. Phillip Foremaster left Saturday, Satur-day, and Mr. and Mrs. Lindau Foremaster left Tuesday for Los Angeles where their father, who has been with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Foremaster since July 10, is reported re-ported recovering from recent surgery. sur-gery.
