Show Vital Civic Problems ; Treated at C. of C. Banquet Friday i Eighty-four of St. George's civic leaders attended the first of a 1 series of Chamber of Commerce ! banquets held in the Standard Cafe banquet room last Friday night, February 7. Love Jr., chairman of the 'road committee for the chamber, gave a short history of the development devel-opment of the various roads in ; this section and told of the possibilities possi-bilities of the road from here to Enterprise as a connection on the 'park to park highway system that i is being developed. He also called ! attention to the need for the com-j com-j pletion of the Hurricane cut-off and told of what had been done land what needed to be done to bring these roads to a reality. Attention At-tention was called by Mr. Love to ! the fact that an appropriation of $1500 had been made by the state I road commission for a location 'survey of the Snow canyon road. He stated that Washington county coun-ty citizens must insist that these two roads be built and declared that if all of the organizations of the county would work together they would be able to bring about ia successful conclusion on both of these projects. David H. Morris spoke of what was being done to secure a federal fed-eral building in place of just a post office and told of the various agencies that could be housed in such a building. He urged that the different civic groups of the community write to their representatives repre-sentatives and urge that a federal building be built and that the funds be made available at once. Mayor Albert E. Miller stressed the need for a slogan and organized organ-ized effort in back of such a slogan. slo-gan. He related what had been accomplished through united effort ef-fort behind the slogan "See Europe Eur-ope if you will, but see America First." He told of the strategic location of St. George as a tourist point and suggested the slogan "All for One" and declared that if St. George would live up to such a slogan many fine results would be seen. Helen Reichmann. president of the Chamber pf Commerce auxiliary, auxil-iary, gave a short history of the club since its inauguration and told of some of the things that had been accomplished through the organization's or-ganization's efforts. Mrs. Reichmann Reich-mann stated that they were still working on the house numbering and street sign program and that they were in hopes that it would be accomplished before too long. Following this the meeting was thrown open for general discussion discus-sion with the result that many projects pro-jects were suggested. These included in-cluded improving the road to the bridge over the Virgin river, the need for a city park, home coming com-ing celebration plans, amphitheatre, amphithea-tre, and roads. i . |
