Show Miss Lena Nelson Honored At D.U.P. Tea Miss Lena Nelson, who has taught in the schools of St. George for the past 43 years, was given special honor at the banquet luncheon given by the D.U.P. Friday Fri-day afternoon, when she was asked ask-ed to stand up that the audience might see Mrs. Hortense McQuarrie0 McQuar-rie0 Odium's first school teacher. (Continued on page eight) Lena Nelson Honored (Continued from first page) Then a call was made for all those present who had attended Miss Nelson's classes at any time during dur-ing her 43 years of teaching. A total of 24 responded. Then all mothers present who had children who had attended Miss Nelson's classes were asked to stand and this brought approximately 50 women to their feet. In their conversations following the luncheon many of the mothers reported having had all of their children under her tutelage at some time or another. There were also many who had been taught by Miss Nelson, who were also among the present mothers of anywhere any-where from one to six children who had received training under her. Miss Nelson says her long years of work have been strenuous at times but have held ample reward in the appreciation extended her by both parents and school children. child-ren. She is made happy frequently when one of her "boys" or "girls" as she refers to her past pupils, call on her or send her a card at Christmas time just to say they have not forgotten. |
