Show EARLY RESIDENT OF THIS CITY CALLED i Mrs. Ann Whipple Cluff, 84, widow of William W. Cluff of Coalville and the mother of the late Mrs. W. Frank Olson of Price, died at her home in Salt Lake City. Sunday, December 31. Mrs. Cluff, a Utah pioneer, was one of the foremost business women in the ! state, and was active in church affairs, throughout her life. Mrs. Cluff was born in McKccne county, Pa., March 15, 1843, a daugh- j ter of Eli and Patience Foster. While : she was still a child the family moved to Redwood City. Calif., and Mrs. Cluff attended the Santa Clara seminary at Santa Clara. At the age of sixteen with her parents she moved to St. George, Utah, where her father engaged in the lumber industry. She was married to William W. Cluff at St. George in 1863. Soon afterward af-terward they moved to Coalville, of which latter place, she was a resident for many years. Mr. Cluff was sent on the Norweigan mission for the L. D. S. church and during his absence Mrs. Cluff was entrusted en-trusted with the responsibility of rearing rear-ing and educating her children. About twenty years ago Mrs. Cluff moved to Salt Lake, where she bought a home, where she was residing at the time of her death. Mrs. Cluff was the mother of eight children, five boys and three girls. |
