Show St. George Wins Two Ball Games LA VERKIX GAME St. George evened the score when they defeated La Verkin on last Saturday afternoon, on La Verkin's home field by the score of 6 to 1. Since the St. George team was so late in arriving, the teams agreed on a seven inning game. La Verkin rooters and team showed show-ed fine courtesy and sportsman- . ship. This was particularly commendable com-mendable since La Verkin had expected the St. George team at 2:00 p.m. and it was after 4:00 p.m. before they arrived. Ad Anderson -for &3t. George pitched a nice game and received good support from the team, in fact it was the fine team play of St. George that was the margin of victory. For La Verkin, Glen Woodbury did a nice job of catching, Paul Wilson .was again outstanding and Reid Wilson played an all-around game, going into the pitcher's box in the last part of the game. E. Gubler kept up his fine batting average. The St. George boys played good ball to redeem themselves from the last game they had with La Verkin. These teams play a fine game and fans are desirous of their scheduling more games both here and in La Verkin. Kenney Milne sprained his ankle an-kle when he slid into third base. He finished the game but was not able to play in the Sunday game and probably will not be able to play for sometime to come. Anderson to D. Lund. CAIJEXTE GAMJS St. George romped on Caliente, to the tune of 20 to 2, in a slow-game slow-game played at the local ball park on last Sunday. Fifteen men up and fifteeo men down is the way the score book reads for the first 5 innings that Ed Lund was in the box. Not a man reached first base. This is some kind of a record for the St. George team, and is due to the fine pitching of Ed Lund afid the way the boys backed him up. Only one ball got out of the infield in those five innings and that one, a long fly, was caught by Murray Webb. Nine men were struck out by Ed in the five innings and Murray Webb who replaced him fanned 7 in the four that he pitched. pit-ched. This was the first time that Murray has pitched this year. As is so often the case the number num-ber of errors chalked up against each team is a good criterion as to why St. George won and Caliente lost. The local boys only made 2 errors while Caliente made 12. On the other hand any time one team gets 25 hits and the other only 4, it is a cinch to pick the winner. Empey played a nice game at short and made 4 assists. Dick Lund looked the best on first base of any position he has played this year. He also played a nice game at La Verkin in this position. Porter, Por-ter, Empey and D. Lund led the batting list with 3 hits each. Some of the new players did very well. Vance made a nice bunt, Harmon made several good catches in right field and Bentley looked good when the boys were warming up before the game. He also made one of the two 3 base hits that were made. Bryand Lund did very well as catcher. He also made two hits and is credited with 3 runs. Wulf-enstein Wulf-enstein also handled himself nicely nic-ely after he replaced Bryan. These men may have to hold down that position for sometime since Kenney Ken-ney Milne's ankle may take a while to heal sufficiently to take over the duties of this position. The boys have been winning their games by going out and having hav-ing one big inning, but it looked (Continued on last page.) BASEBALL (Continued from first page) like they kept thinking they had that inning to play each time they came to bat. They scored in 6 out of the 8 times they were up. Fans are beginning to worry that the boys will think that they are getting good and are a'fraid that it may take a good trimming to bring them down to earth. They point out that it might be a good idea to bring La Verkin over again and if the boys had to lose a game let them lose it to a county coun-ty team. ,Minersvillc here Su'nday Minersville is now in first place with four wins and one loss. St. George is second with three wins and one loss.,- A win on Sunday-will Sunday-will place St. George at the head of the league. If the boys play the game they are capable of playing, they will take this game and practically cinch the first half of the league. Everyone should be out to help the boys "WIN.
