Show WASHINGTON WASHINGTON, March 26. Mrs. Christina Bastian died March 18 at the home of l.er daughter, Mrs. Elmer El-mer Carling, at Fillmore. She was born October 11, 1845, in Jutland, Denmark. At the age of eight years, she with her parents, Lewis and Caroline Caro-line Hansen, began the journey to Utah. They arrived at St. Louis in March 1855. Mrs. Bastian left her parents in the spring of 1857 to come to Utah with a company of Danish emigrants. She married Jacob Bastian Bas-tian in February, 1861. She is survived by the following children: Charles Bastian of St. George, Lewis of Enterprise, Serena Farnsworth of San Francisco, Wil-ford Wil-ford Bastian of Vernal, Retta Sains-bury Sains-bury of St. John, Ariz., Christy Carling Carl-ing of Fillmore and two brothers in Denmark. Funeral services were held Friday under the direction of Bishop Victor Iverson. The choir sang "Oh, My Father." Prayer was offered T5y Walter Wal-ter Iverson. Solos were given by Melba Webb and Mrs. Mamie Pax-man. Pax-man. The speakers were Randolph Andrus, D. H. Morris, Arthur Crawford Craw-ford and Bishop Victor Iverson. As a closing number the choir sang "Beautiful Land." Benediction was given by William Tobler. Glena, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hannig of this place, and Rodney Laney, son of Mr. nd Mrs. Hyrum Laney of St. George, were married in Parowan. A shower was given in their honor Monday evening. eve-ning. Miss May Jolley spent the week end here from Hurricane. A party was given Monday night by the school teachers at the home of Mrs. Neilson in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Frei. Mrs. Melvin Wittwer of Beaver is spending a couple of weeks with her mother, Mrs. Ellen Westover. George, Rolland and Edward Thayne of California arrived here last week to be with their mother who is . very ill. Wilford Stephens, who was brought home Wednesday suffering with inflammatory in-flammatory rheumatism, is reported to be improving. Mrs. Julia Sproul, Will Vanorden and sister, Gertrude, of Idaho, left for their homes Sunday morning, after af-ter attending the funeral of their grandmother, Mrs. Christina Bastian. |
