Show GOOD PLAYS The Babcock Varsity players of the University of Utah staged two plays here Monday and Tuesday nights. The play "Kindling" Monday night was very good. It was a melodrama melo-drama of New York tenement life. In this play each of the actors lived his part. It is full of dramatic crises and is intermingled with enough wit to make it a very appealing play. The cast follows: Mrs. Bates, Beulah Casady; Steve, her son, J. Stanley Russon; Alice, Mrs. Burke-Smith's Burke-Smith's niece, Mercy Lundberg; Maggie Shultz, Myrintha Burning-ham; Burning-ham; Heinie Shultz, her husband, Calvin Midgley; Dr. Taylor, J. Kenneth Ken-neth Thatcher; Mrs. Burke-Smith, Allien Robertson; Raffecty, Merrill Bennion; Mr. Howland, Mrs. Burke-Smith's Burke-Smith's business manager, J. Stanley Russon. Tuesday night the play "Kempy" was presented to a crowded house. It is a mirth provoking comedy and carries car-ries the guarantee to make you laugh or you get your money back. The cast follows: Ruth Bence, Mercy Lundberg; "Dad" Bence, Merrill Mer-rill Bennion; "Ma" Bence, Beulah Casady; Jane Wade, Myrintha Burn-ingham; Burn-ingham; Katherine Bence. Alice Robertson; Rob-ertson; Ben Wade, Calvin Midgley; "Kempy" James, J. Stanley Russon; "Duke" Merrill, J. Kenneth Thatcher. Thatch-er. The play "Mamma's Affair" was billed here but by special request "Kempey" was presented. These plays were presented by Professor Maud May Babcock, and the public speaking department of the University of Utah, by arrangement arrange-ment with the Recreation Committees Commit-tees of the three St. George wards. This is 'the second state tour of these players and we certainly hope they will return. From here they go to Hurricane, Kanab, Panguiteh, and points north. |
