A LL aboard for the Ameri-can Ameri-can Legion convention i at St. George, j All of the state of Utah J is full of beautiful and won- derf ul sights, but nowhere j in the world can one find in so small an area such charm, beauty. such unsurpassed magnificence as has been strewn with lavish hands in southern Utah, making it a veritable wonderland of ever changing scenery. A few miles south of Manti on 80, silhoueted against the green of the hills, rises in simple dignity one of the temples for which Utah and the Mormons, are known the world over. You must pause to climb the many steps to viexv the checkerboard beauty beau-ty of well regulated cities ar.d farm land stretching in all directions to meet the blue dsitant mountains. Continuing south the gray ;.r.d tan hillsides give way to the reds and oranges which mark southern Utah one can riot help but experience a genuine surprise to see a bright green field springing frorri vermillion soil. A few miles farther on, just off the highway by the' '.'nil's trail, built by the Sa-l;na Sa-l;na Lions club, one finds Fish lake, a paradise for fisherman, 0000 feet above sea level. In this natural lako, seven miles long and a mile wide, eastern brook find rainbow trout flash and play in ice-cold waters, so blue that one scarcely knows where the wafer ends and he.'-ven begins. Some of the most wonderful wonder-ful works of nature are the natural bridges of San Juan and Wayne counties. Nearby are cliff dwellings, centuries old, perched almost inaccessibly inacces-sibly on the steep cliff sides. Within a radius of one hundred miles, in the extreme ex-treme southern part of the state may be seen the sublime sub-lime coloring of Zion canyon, can-yon, the spectacular wonders of Bryce, the majestic beauty beau-ty of Grand and the colorful expanse of Cedar Breaks. Bryce canyon, rcspendent in flaming scarlet and gold, staggers one at first sight, and then calls one to linger a little longer to learn of the canyon's moods which the changing lights of day and night bring to it. Chiseled Chis-eled with infinite care, it is Utah's jewel box the gems of which are carved with the exquisite care of the rarest cameo. Nowhere in the world can be found the kaleidoscopic coloring never to be forgotten forgot-ten in Zion's canyon, coloring color-ing ranging from browns and vermiilions to purples and pinks, to climax in virgin vir-gin whiteness of the Great vv'hite 'ihrone. One .should never try to describe the changeless, yet c-.'er changing Grand Canyon of the Colorado river. One should never leave Ihe wes' without having stoorl on the rim of that canyon trying to n'iiTor ir.delibly fin his sou' the immensity of that flaming flam-ing abyss. A visit, to the "iin-kissed, snow cooled Ced;ir Breaks and the circle or Utah's unique southern canyons can-yons is completed. |
