Show H. L. RE ID, TE ACHER AT DLXIE COLLEGE SPEAKS AT ROTARY H. L. Reid, teacher at the Dixie college and Zion Park naturalist during the summer months, was theguest speaker at the regular weekly luncheon of the St. George Rotary club last Friday. He choose as his subject the "History and Spirit of Southern Utah." Mr. Reid became interested in the history of Southern Utah a number of years ago and started to trace its history from the time that Father Escalante went through here down to the present time. This information he wove into a story which has as its predominate pre-dominate theme the spirit of the west and its pioneers. It was from this book th-ait) Mr. - RJeid gave his talk. In telling of the Mormon colonization, col-onization, Mr. Reid pointed on that there had been three great colonizations in the western part of the United States. They were: Oregon, Texas and Utah. He went on to say that from his studies of this section of the country and of other colonizations it is his belief that this Dixie country had the most unique history of them all. Those who have read Mr. Reid's book report that it is intensly interesting in-teresting and carries a spirit tha1 portrays a side of the development of the west and its pioneers that has never been grasped by other writers. |
