Show IZION-CARMEL DEDICATION TOMORROW National, State and Church Leaders Will Attend Ceremonies Cere-monies in Mile-Long Tunnel Tun-nel at 9:30 Friday Morning A huge padlock, such as might be used by some giant, will bar the west portal of the mile-long tunnel on the Zion-Mt. Carmel highway Independence day, when the party of governors and their friends, probably around 200, and a gathering assembled from all points of Utah, especially from Washington, Iron and Kane counties, coun-ties, to the estimated total of 6000, will seek entrance. A pony express rider will dash up, turn over the huge key to some official present possibly Horace Ho-race H. Albright, director of parks. The latter will open the lock and the party will enter to dedicate the new highway, which is numbered num-bered among the most remarkable and picturesque in the world. The ceremonies proper will be held at the first gallery, about" 800 feet from the west portal. Here the audience will be arranged in the gallery and along the tunnel on either side. Details of the program for the entire tour of the Utah national parks, and of the visit to tne north rim of the Grand canyon, to be taken by the governors attending the national governors' conference and their parties, have 'been announced an-nounced by the committee in charge. After breakfast tomorrow morning morn-ing exercises at the west portal will begin of. 9:30 a. m., with Director Di-rector Albright as master of ceremonies, cere-monies, the program at the gal- .lery being, as follows: Introduction of master of ceremonies cere-monies by Superintendent Scoyen; address, Director Albright; selection, selec-tion, St. George chorus; addresses by Thomas H. McDonald, chief, and B. J. Finch, United States'Tiu-reau States'Tiu-reau of public roads; selection, St. George chorus; address, Governor George H. Iern; selection, St George, chorus The party is. due to leave the gallery at 11 a. in. and to arrive at Kanab for lunch at 1:30 p. m., Leaving Kanab at 3 p. m they will make a brief stop at Jacob's lake and are due to reach the Union Pacific lodge at Bright Angel point, Grand canyon north rim, at 6.30 p. m. Here the Independence day program pro-gram will be given,- 'with Governor John C. Phillips of Arizona presiding. pre-siding. Ceremonies will include a banquet under the general direction direc-tion of Superintendent M. R. Til-lotson Til-lotson of the Grand Canyon national na-tional park. |
